Wood Texture Prints

I saw this on Reddit and figured the group would like it.  I am definitely going to try this at some point.  If I understand correctly, the author applied a wood texture bump map to the final model:

Bryan - will admit - the part pic looks AWESOME!!!

But, OK - I will be just a Tad bit Cynical...

Although it looks like wood - in regards to Texture - it would be MUCH Nicer to see something like that - but, with something like a Wood filled PLA. As in, if one is going to do the Texture - print something to actually LOOK like wood! But, one reason why they may not do that - is cause it might look a tad hokey - since the texture is there - but, not the color variations! 

All this being said - DANG - I have a project for which this technique could be a PERFECT Addition!!!

That's my plan, to try some wood filled PLA and see how that goes.  I've seen some content where they vary the temperature of the nozzle to also vary the coloration to make it look more like real wood.  I'm not sure how to do that but I would be curious to see how the combined effects turn out.

Yeah - NOW you're Talking! Combine the Texture effect with the "burning" of the filament effect to have it changes colors - and to truly simulate wood grain - and that together could produce some great results! If you end up trying to do that - definitely keep us posted.

So I tried this making a small cylinder in the slicer and applying the modifier file. 

Set the infill on the modifier 90 degrees to the main object infill (I.e. infill is normally at 45 degrees so set the modifier to 135), and enable fuzzy skin on the modifier. 

Hard to see on this red filament, but it works great.

IS this the same technique used by Bryan Murphy???

Ironically - I got a small box of stuff from my storage unit last week - and found TWO Different Test "spools" of Wood type filament samples. 

This is:   

I really, REALLY Need to do a test with this filament. Hopefully it's still Viable - as it's OLD!!!

Someone has reimplemented this  in  PrusaSlicer: https://www.printables.com/model/1420021-add-wood-grain-effects-to-your-models-prusaslicer I have not had a chance to look at it yet

Thank you Mr. Doppelgänger for pointing this out. I'm really Dying to try this Woo Grain trick. I'm now using the Elegoo slicer. But, if I could get print setting for my Elegoo Carbon but for PS - I would Love to try it!

Is the elegy slicer cuts or Prusa derived 

If Prusa you should be able to carefully copy the printer setting over on top of one of the other close printers

Are you asking - is the Elegoo Slicer derived from the Prusa Slicer? In fact - I believe BOTH are derived from a Prior slicer - supposedly, I believe - Slic3r - if I am not mistaken! I think MAYBE that answers your supposed question...

Yeah - not sure about that. Was hoping one of the Dudes on here that have my Elegoo Carbon might know the TRUE answer...
