I saw this on auction very cheaply. Of course dunno how high the auction will go.
But...

Does this offer any benefits compared to modern higher-end FDM printers?
I understood that the machine is ABS-only, and needs to use Stratasys supplied ABS cartridges to function properly.

And you have thwo layer height options 0.25mm (quality) / 0.33mm (fast)?
Whaaat?

So is this just hot garbage or a machine worth tinkering with?

Obsolete. Don’t waste any time or money.

Ok. It is hard to know, because these machines are not widely available.

So I won't.

Could have costed 500 USD, but it weighs 300 pounds and is as big as a fridge. A bulky toy would that be. 😅

Thanks!

Even if it's not obsolete, machines of that era required a maintenance contract, which might not be available any longer.
Kurt knows about this kind of thing firsthand.

I have a couple of these, they are beyond end of life (eol), which means you can't get a service contract unless you have had one continuously since before (eol).

The SST model uses soluable support, which is very expensive to buy, even if you are reloading and resetting your own cartridges.

The BST models use break away support, which can be reloaded economicly with HIPS.

These old printers are way too involved for people who didn't actively use them in their heyday.

I would pass, unless you have a high tolerence for frustration.

Hey there Darrell,

Thanks for the Call Out.

So - just a little reminder...

In the prior version of this forum - there was a dude on there who got ahold of a used SSys Mojo - same machine as mine.
{Darn - I started this reply last Friday here at work - never finished it - so I AM going to finish it now - even though it's probably a Moot point.}

So, that guy actually did something so that he could use regular hobby level filament in his StrataSys Mojo printer - which normally takes VERY Expensive proprietary filament. As such, yeah - some people have hacked the proprietary machines like SSys. And, maybe it could be done for this machine in this posting. But, honestly - it's probably TOO much of a hassle to do...
