Son of a biscuit... Wow, I'm impressed. Got a wild hair to print something just before going to bed last night. I've had this model, an Imperial AT-ST Walker from FAB365, for a while. I unzipped the folder imported all the parts to evaluate the situation and saw that all 37 pieces would fit on a single print plate. I was thinking about how each part might need brims and orientation changes..bla bla
Then I said screw it I'm gonna Leroy Jenkins this crap. Made a couple minor tweaks to settings hit slice and sent to the machine to print. Watched the first layer and went to bed, woke to this. A smidge of whispy stringing but pretty much perfect.  I mean wow...some of these parts are only being held by one or two bottom extrusion lines... 😲KIMG0031.JPG

Did they change the model? I have the FAB365 AT-AT (from GooDesign) It prints a lot of the stuff as one piece and folds up. It's also only 11 parts.

Sean - I am COMPLETELY Onboard with You - as I kinda "love" my Centauri - as I constantly see AMAZING print results!

Now - I'm curious...

What filament did you use? Is it a PLA print? I'd love to get the print file from you - and, if it's a project file - and it has the tweaks you did - that would be perfect - since then I can just hit Slice and Print!

I'm also curious to know - have you connected your printer to your network - and have you used the camera to review printing from a distance - like when you are at work? I have NOT done that at all - not even connected it to my network. But, I'm thinking about doing that - so, if there's a problem, while I am at work - I can simply kill the print job!

Also...

And, maybe this should be in Another thread - as I don't want to hijack your thread. But, I heard that there has been some external group working on an AMS for the ECC1 - although, supposed Elegoo may still be working on an AMS for the ECC1 - even though they have thrown all their efforts into the ECC2...

Since I've gotten my CC I quit using my other 3 printers!

Mine is on a rolling cart, rock'n & roll'n shakes and jumps, but the prints are great!
(I always get people arguing that solid mounts are best, but that is just a myth, because I have the working proof)

Anyway, I'm blown away at the level of quality & speed i get with "stock" settings, oh I've changed a few settings like infill density and outer layer numbers, but basicly just the defaults.

I always print using my filament drier, it help to keep the filament flexible and helps to dry any moisture that my be present.

I may buy another one (or 2) in the near future.

So, here's the thing that KILLS me about the ECC:

I paid $1300 for my Prusa Core One.
  • I can upgrade my Core One to the Core One+ for $10.00.
  • The Core One will always get firmware updates from Prusa.
  • I will always have an upgrade path for my Core One.
  • I will always have support from Prusa for my Core One.

The ECC will have NONE of that.
  • Print quality is probably indistinguishable
  • Easy of use is probably indistinguishable
  • Print volume is larger
  • Touch screen interface is probably better

*****
I could buy a NEW ECC (indexing to the latest machine) EVERY. YEAR. and never pay as much as I would for my Core One plus upgrades to keep it up the latest model.
*******

Regret? No.
Do it again? Yes.

Bryan,

I have the AT-AT model also. This is just another model of theirs. The way they design with print optimization in mind is fantastic.

Kurt,
The filament I used was just plain jane cheapo hobby lobby grey pla.

Due to the model licensing I can't share the models in anyway. But it is a free model, sort of. The way FAB365 skirts copyright concerns is they have the majority of models that are proprietary like Star wars and the like is they're FREE with a download ticket. You get a download ticket by buying another model on the site. But you'll find that they have designed display stands for the majority of the free models, like for this AT-ST the stand is a platform dessert scene and a starship deck both for $3 for the set. You buy the stand use the ticket from that purchase to get the AT-ST model.
As to the settings I can replace the models in my project with a generic block save and send you the 3mf file. Then you can open it delete the generic block and replace them with your own model files once you get them.
You'll find the models on fab365.net

As to external monitoring, I use an app called "Octoapp: octoprint& Klipper" that sets up native to the elegoo connection standard that allows you to monitor via mobile device on your local network. It has pretty much all the functions of the CCs webview page but is layout customizable. It's my understanding the app developers also have an app plugin that allows you to do monitoring from external networks, I haven't set up or tried that yet.

As to the ELEGOO AMS. There's another thread that has covered that topic as fully as to any information of my understanding. I'm still crossing my fingers elegoo comes out with theirs.ifnot I'm considering something similar to the 3d chameleon. With the CC having a built-in cutter it removes the need for tuning the "hammering" to get the tip form right for the retraction without having the long strings or deformation that was that systems biggest drawback.

Nevermind, this is the AT-ST. I initially read that as the AT-AT! Sorry!

Yeah they do a great job. Especially the ones that fold up. I've printed the Star Destroyer and the Venator, both look incredible.

Gambody does nice models too. I'm currently printing the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter model from Gambody. It's friggin huge and lots of detail.

Jody - to a VERY LARGE Extent - it is EXACTLY Why I bought my ECC.

As for Dan's funny comments - which I LOVED by the way - yeah, because it can do the whole clipper calibration thingy - even though it Moves and Shakes a LOT on his Cart - the Klipper takes care of that issue!

Now - Dan - a Fun question and a Fun Challenge!

1 - Does your cart have Wheels that can Lock - and HAVE you Locked the wheels?
2 - The Fun Challenge - if you DO have wheels that can Lock - flip them. As in - if they are Locked now - then Unlock them - and do a print. But, do NOT re-run the Calibration setup. Because - I think you can actually make a print Worse - by doing the switch (assuming you have locking wheels) - since its printing compensation will be wrong.

If you DO decide to take on this Challenge - Oh Mighty Dan - you should make a new thread and post the results - I would be Thrilled to find out the results!

Sean - thanks for ALL your feedback - truly Awesome. No worries about not sharing the files - I totally get it. I may indeed have to do the whole thing - pay the minimal $3 to get the stand - then get the AT-ST model.

Could you post a pic of the assembled model? And stand/desert scene? I'd love to see it!

Kurt have you seen any of the youtube videos where they basically just hang a printer from a chain and let it print?

Emily does it in this one about the 5 minute mark:

Well... she's one wobbly chicken but she's together. I'll most likely pose it when I have the stand printed and glue the joint ls into position.

I did have to reprint 2 sets of models... The inserts that go into the cockpit windows and the trunnion between the heavy and body. I didn't realize they were supposed to be in different colors.

What did you print the windows with? I have some translucent red PETG I think I'll print it with.

Going to print this tomorrow in "Silver" ABS. Well, really it's grey but has a little sheen to it. I've been printing the Gunstar with it but don't have enough left for the next huge body piece. The new roll won't be here until wednesday.

Yeah - Bryan - you got me thinking. It might be REALLY Cool to print this in a Silver looking ABS - and, maybe even double the size of all the parts - and then acetone vapor smooth all the parts. That could be a REALLY Sweet project!

I just need to seriously consider my printing setup first...

Here's the desert scene stand. I thought I had some wood filled pla for the correct color tone but couldn't find it. Thought maybe this black/orange co-extrusion filament may be a poor substitute but I actually like the look of it. The variation adds more natural depth to the plate rather than being monotone.
