OK here is our unboxing of the AD5X: https://youtu.be/KzzyPgOp0p0

FlashForge have taken a different approach to the AMS systems on other printers.

Going to be printing on it a LOT in the next few weeks.

Ooo!
We never talk about the effect of Bambu on the other Chinese 3d printer makers like Creality and.., Flashforge! Can’t wait to hear about how well the AD5X works.

Yer it doesn't look as nice as the AMS, but i think it might be more functional

The AMS - with so much filament going back and forth was always a minor miracle, this doesn't do that (has all 4 filament rolls going straight into the extruder)

Well then, it will have same downside as Bambu - in regards to incompatible filaments. Like, if you want to print PETG but have PLA supports - for - as Andy raves - Full Contact Support. That is Very problematic if all filaments go thru the same nozzle. Only solution may be VERY Long purges - but, that will cause LOTS of waste...

Yes, these type are good for multi color, but not efficient for multi material. Still a lot of filament waste in purges either way.

I am trying full contact supports with Bambu AMS lite, as I have been hearing this gospel of full contact supports for a while. It is the best thing what happened to humanity since sliced bread!

"Very problematic" "VERY Long purges"? Well, I am using PETG only on the support interface layer, and there seems to be 4 layers of PETG support interfaces. All together I am purging 1.6 grams of PETG and 4.1 grams of PLA that is coming on top of the PETG interface layers. Let's see how it goes!
Even if the print would be 5 times bigger, we are talking about cents here.

Sure, if the model would need 150 PETG support interface layers, that might cause extensive purge, but if the model happens to have only 10 or so support interface layers, that should not be a big deal, right?

I am gonna print this model tomorrow and officially join the Cult of Full Contact Supports. Top Z Distance 0.0mm, wish me luck!

Best Regards,
JanE from Finland

I suggest… if your slicer can do it… S3D does it and PS does it…. They refer to it as “Dense support”
Set the support material that’s different to the last support part the “Dense” so that the majority of support material is the same marterial as the part. This way you have minimal material changes.

I'll try that. Thank you!

I like FlashForge's approach of integrating the multi-material system to the printer. Current multi-material systems are pretty simple anyway, you do not necessarily need a separate device.

And it seems to be cheapest of the systems available. AD5X is only 100€ more than 5M, so:

FlashForge: 100€
Bambu AMS lite: 160€
Bambu AMS: 210€
Creality CFS: 240€

These are the prices in a combo offering.

The Creality looks like they’ll catch up, they’re being very responsive to negative reviews in terms of fixing things. The one design flaw not sure if they’ll solve is the hotend tube is too long resulting in color bleeding issues or dramatic filament waste.
