So - I've brought this up before. And the world of AI is changing at a VERY Rapid Pace!!!

I have been EXTENSIVELY using AI for the past year at work - in regard to Coding. Mostly working with Claude - and at times jumping over to CoPilot. Most of that AI coding assistance is in regard to FoxPro coding, FoxPro to C# conversion, as well as C# coding & problem solving. I've also used it to generate OpenSCAD code, as well as Python code - with the last bunch of Python stuff being done with CoPilot.

But - I have NOT been keeping up with AI for 3D Design. And, yeah, we've posted here in the forum Multiple times about AI for 3D Model generation.

So - I'm curious to know if other folks here have tried their hands at AI for 3D model generation, and specifically - generating 3D Models that are truly Viable for 3D Printing!

I'm still trying to move forwards on one of my 3D Design projects - for a very specific 3D Printed item - and I'm really hoping to find an AI 3D Design solution that would work for the project. Such that I can easily use the tool to generate an object, with a process in place to allow me to generate an object in 5-10 minutes - so that I can spin up the process to eventually produce 500-2000 models - such that each one is Different. Which, of course, highlights the potential of 3D Printing for consumer product small scale production (where as Injection Molding is for large 5K - 100K production lines).

I look forward to the feedback!

TIA,
-Kurt

I have been so impressed with Claude coding. I am a poor programmer, unless you want something in C64 Basic...lol  Is it perfect, no. It makes many mistakes, but you can feed that back in and with a little diligence I can have something running on my electronic creations.
Now 3D modeling is another story. If you want dust collectors, there are some programs that work pretty good. But for actual accurate, usable parts, I haven't found anything. Has anyone out there? That and I am able to model on my own so it is not as significant to me as coding help.
That's my nickel's worth since we dont make pennies anymore.

P.S.  And the last part of your statement about molding bieng best for for larger quantity of parts. Check out Slant 3D, they are a mega print shop trying to compete against molding and doing it in the larger quantities.  They have some really good videos, though the later ones push their products more, like the print on demand service.

P.P.S.S.  That is a real lion hugging me in my avatar Pic. He was incredible! R.I.P. Tash

I'm curious. Are you using the Free Claude - or Claude Pro?
Thanks for your feedback. True enough about No More Pennies!

I very well do indeed know about Slant3D. And, if I can really make forward progress on my project - I may indeed consider Slant for the production process!!!

As for your Avatar Pic - do you mean - the pic that shows up here next to your name in the postings? IF so - yeah - it's really TOO Small to really see What is going on. If it's a Real Lion - I'd love to see the full sized pic!

I have maxed out the free version.  Getting ready to set up the basic paid level. It has shown its worth. Under the right conditions it really increases my IQ so to speak.

So far, all are terrible at model generation.  However, Copilot is the clear leader because it offers app integration and screen sharing, and it provides a step-by-step walkthrough to help you build any model you want.  Right now all of them love to build CadQuery and PythonOCC, so thumbs down on that.

I did some basic experimentation. It actually works great if you use ChatGPT/Copilot/whatever to ask for an image of what you want against a white background. You can even get it to generate views of the same object from different angles (top, front, side, etc.). At this stage it is easy to request changes and modifications. Plus, you can give the AI images to guides their image creation.

Then you can use one of the many online AI tools that convert images into an STL model. Some work better than others. Some only accept one image, which isn’t great, since it just has to guess what the model looks like in the back.

If you want a statue of one of your kids riding a dragon, it is great. If you want a well-designed part to get your 1970’s Datsun back on the road, AI modelling is next to useless.

That said, I would imaging the tools could code in OpenSCAD, so that might be another way to get what you want.
