I used Cura 4.11 to slice a small model and sent it to Octoprint for printing.
After the 1st layer a tone came on and a Thermal Runaway error code came up on the printer monitor.

1st test print:
(Successful)
245C hot-end temp (at 1st layer)
240C hot-end printing
85C bed temp.
Model = Kalibrering_01.stl (thingyverse)
85% in X&Y
101% in Z
No Print Fan

2nd test print:
(Failed, thermal runaway)
240C hot-end temp (at 1st layer)
235C hot-end printing
80C bed temp.
Model = My own design, 13 minute print
No Print Fan

I'm NOT sure it was "a real" thermal runaway because the temp was 241C.
To be safe, I shut down the power source then quickly turned it back on to "cool" everything down.

I won't try again until I can find out if I'm doing something wrong.

What material are you printing with that you have to be that temp?
Also, why is the bed so hot? It only needs to be around 55C.
If there's a problem with a thermistor you can get that error.
It's super easy to test it. Just turn on the printer and watch your temps.
That code can come up for the bed heater too. Its real easy for the bed heater to get shorted out. It's solder points underneath are easily touched which in turn will blow the MOSFET and you'll get that error. That happed to my Ender3. If this is the case then I'd say its time to get the SKR board!

Ah! Your title.
PETg only real needs 235C unless of course there's a problem with your thermistor.

Unless you are printing PC or ABS (both of which need to be heat soaked or they shrink and pull up) you only need to be around 55C and thats for adherence to the plate... and thats only if you are using a chemical bonding agent ion the plate such as Aquanet or glue stick.

I'm using eSun PETG.
They recommend 245C & 80C on the bed & NO FAN.

I'm using a Hictop magnetic removable bed (rough surface).

I think I found my "Rookie" mistake!
My initial print temp was 10C higher than the print temp.
That is why I got the runaway error!

I'll turn the temp's back down until I get the right combo for adhesion.
This bed won't stick PLA unless it's at 65C, but stick it does and you can only get it off after the bed cools down under 38C.
At 35C & under you can blow on it and it's unstuck!

Update:
After printing many items with PETG I have to say it prints very nicely.

My heat is 240, 80/70.

I like the PETG so far but haven't run any strength tests yet.

PLA vs PETG.

Seems the PETG isn't as brittle as PLA, that helps a few of my products, others won't benefit from it.

Thanks for the help...
