I have been using my homemade prusa i3 clone for many years and now 3d printing has gotten mainstream enough that several people I work with have gotten them. So after hearing them being excited about their new machines I had to get one too. I decided to get the Creality CR200b  https://www.creality.com/goods-detail/creality-cr-200b-3d-printer

This machine doesn't seem to be as easily modifiable as the ones built on aluminum extrusion but I am hoping the mostly enclosed area will let me print ABS easier. I also am hoping I can get a profile in cura setup that is reliable enough so the same 9 year old can go make or download things and print them.

So far I have made the lucky cat included on the sd card, some name tags the 9 year old made in tinkercad and a cubone skull off thingiverse. All were made with pla.

Here's what I have found so far :

It looks very nice and seems pretty well built for what I can see it looks like something you would but at a normal department store like target. The price was 320.00 delivered. The shipping weight was 46 pounds. It does look hard to access any of the components though.

The prints stick good to the glass build plate if I clean it with alcohol they are very hard to get off even after it is cool I probably need to adjust the gap between the bed and the nozzle. The build plate is very hard to get back on if you remove it! There are some clips at the rear that are way too tight so the glass doesn't fit under them. I tried to loosen the screws that hold them but it didn't change anything. For now I am just not going to remove the plate.

This machine seems to not be very popular so there isn't much info or modifications out there for it.

I was surprised the included roll of pla worked good! The reviews for these things always make it sound like the included spools are garbage.

The motors are pretty quiet but the fan on the cool block is way too loud and needs to be replaced.

The part cooling fan works pretty good but is only on one side of the nozzle so I have had issues with it not cooling evenly. On the cubone skull I am making now I had to abort and rotate the object because it was not cooling and droopy. I may try to add another fan.

The presliced objects and default speed in their cura profile is 50mm/s. I changed to 80mm/s and it looks just as good but you do here more noise when it does a travel move. (200mm/s for travel)

I will post more after I make some more stuff.

Tried doing some ABS it's not warping but is having trouble staying on the bed. I am just using the textured glass surface probably would stick if I switch to the smooth side with some aquanet.

The 3DP looks enclosed - so, it should work to help create a kinda heated chamber! IF so, yeah - flip glass, use smooth side & AQ - but, ALSO - you MUST use some Helper Discs on corners to help KEEP the ABS down. A disc like a quarter of half dollar - and make it like 1 or 2 layers thick - with disc center at the corner! Make sense???

Printed with ABS @80mm/s I used a raft and supports because there was not much touching the build plate. It stayed stuck the whole time.
I am amazed how well the spikes turned out. The one on the top left was damaged from dropping.

Hey Matt,

Glad to see you're having success with this printer. The piece looks pretty damn good! What's the height of that character? And, if it were me - I'd go and print some eye and piece parts - of different colors - to add to the character - in a different color - and that would make it pretty bad ass! And, then, to make it really Epic - I would Acetone Vapor smooth the whole character!!!

-K

Printing the features is a good idea we will do that on another one this one we painted them because it was easy with only eyes and a mouth to do. We another one, the cubone skull in pla, coated it with bondo and spray painted it. I will be making lots of pokemon and things you can make in tinkercad since there is a 9 year old that can use a computer to find stuff on thingiverse.
