Hello all,

I have my modem installed in drawing room and the Internet fails to connect most of the time when trying from my master bedroom since it's located little far.
It must be true for others too, so I really need to know how can I manage to get good internet strength in my bedroom.

Thanks

Hi Payal,

Usually laptops have a wifi range of about 30 mtrs, i guess for any apartment of under 2000 sq ft in boulevard, this range would be sufficient.
However some ultra book (weighing less than a kg) or so have lower wifi range.

U can try folowing:
1. Place wifi router to some central location in your home.
2. Check if this problem is only with ur laptop
3. Buy a usb powered wifi receiver for laptop. These connect to ur laptop hence if u buy 1 u can use internet only on 1 machine. I was offered this as an add on while buying ultra book from sony.

I am not aware of any booster kinda thing.

Payal,
Which model is it?
Do you use a separate modem and wifi router or is it just one box?

Generally all modern routers are good enough for signal across rooms. So either your router is very old or has gone bad.

If it's under warranty ask the service provider to replace it.
Alternatively you can buy another router that can be used as repeater to boost signal. There are many on flipkart, some are really small and portable. Buy one of those.
You can also buy a new router to replace your existing one. In that case make sure you buy one with a large range.

Apoorv, I am also using a D-Link model..which is just a single box.. I bought it 2months ago & infact it has 2antennas for better coverage(as told by the shopkeeper).. I dont remember the model number.

And Vishal, does it means you are additionally using this router to strengthen the weak internet signal after some distance?

If you have a two antenna router then one is used for Sending and other for receiving the data.
You need to add Repeater in between your room and modem.
The task of repeated would be to accept the signal and throw to your room where u have TV etc.

Payal,

Well, you shouldn't have to add a repeater in these flats as what you have should be sufficient. Get their customer service to come and do some fine tuning.

But if you want a repeater, you could buy this:

This can also be used with a reliance or tata indicom USB dongle.

Or you can use this:

even this:

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
