I've been working alot and trying to make plastic stuff too. not much
activity on this group lately but there's alot going on with the main
group. any interest in a november meeting? as far as printing I've got
my ToM printing at .2mm layers and I'd like to push it further. also
I'm interested in seeing how people are liking the mk7.

Not sure about the MK7 since I'm playing with the MK6 dualstruder.

About the meetup, looks like I can meetup on either the 9th or the 16th (both are Wednesdays) and I can host in East Boston.

I have a mk7 that should be working by tomorrow. Either of those dates should work for me.
I also have a hot end that I've been working on that should be able to get the nozzles 10mm apart. Now i need to figure out the drive system.

I saw you were working on the 2 headed mk6. I'd love to see it. I
believe those dates work for me. how was the last meetup?

It was cool, small, just Jeremy, Chandra and I.

We worked on tuning Chandra's stock cupcake and Jeremy's flip over to 5D skeinforge.

how long did/will the mk7 take 2 install? I'm thinking of getting
one. I reposted a question I saw elsewhere on the main board a while
ago about the possibility of setting up an easy way to quickly swap
btw mk6 and mk7. is this feasible?

the way the MK7 is designed, it's like a super simple build. Once its assembled, the most annoying thing should be opening the bottom cabinet of the TOM to plug it in.

It took me about 1/2 hour to put it together. I got some thermocouple connectors from mcmaster carr and am planning on putting connectors on all of the other wires so that I can swap it easily. The one issue is that the stepper is different so the ref voltages would be different on the driver. I'm probably going to have two drivers installed, one for each extruder and just swap the connectors from the motherboard to the drivers.

I'm using the polulu drivers, much easier with only one pot on them.

I'm planning on going to the motate system when it's up. the pot is controlled by the chip and the chip can recover from skipped steps at 128th step.

hehe, here's a teaser image of the dev carrier board.

Maybe I'll do that soon. I haven't drawn it up yet. I've mostly been designing it as I machined it.
My plan is to use the mk7 nozzles.
With the 6mm nozzle hole 1mm from the edge of the block, that makes the center of the nozzle 4mm from the edge. A 2mm gap between the blocks seems like it should work.
The only worry I have is whether I can drill a 6mm barrel with a 3mm filament hole. It might end up a little fragile.
I'll try to draw it up sometime soon. It's pretty much the same as the mk7 setup, in fact, you could mod a mk7 block by just shaving off a mm or two from the side of it.

You'll be mounting them head to head, right?

Probably though that doesn't leave any room for a bearing. If it was get drive I could mount it side by side either by having the gears on opposite sides or by spacing one set out from the extruder a bit so they are staggered.

Word on high (my wife) has given me freedom to geek out on makerbots on the 16th at 7:30pm

Does that work of others? The studio is in East Boston a couple blocks from the exit of the Callahan Tunnel.

Umm, I would say to bring your makerbot with you, then if there is anything you need to help tweaking, it's there and ready.

Best,

By the way, does anyone want one of Rob Giseburt's PSMDs or 3G 5D boards?

I can get him to get them to me by the meetup.

The address is 77 Liverpool street,  East Boston, 02128

Yes, it is a garage, the left garage door is the one you want. It's pretty funky inside, thanks to my studio mate Matt who could lightly say likes planes...

We actually should be fine for space.

I should be able to get there at 7pm. But I would shoot for 7:30 to arrive.

I'll be heading down this evening, likely will be a little late (closer to 8). Realized I forgot to bring some alcohol to clean my build platform and probably touched it in transport. Anyone have some wipes, etc they can bring tonight? Otherwise I can pick some up on my way.

Also bringing my makerbot on the T is always fun - I got asked if it was a flux capacitor this morning.

Two sad bots will be joining us.
