Hello Penguins!
Even though there were only 21 members present at this last DCM, 9 out of 11 clubs were present! It's been a while since we had over 8 clubs attending DCM's and I hope that we not only increase the number of members attending, but reach the goal attendance of 11 out of 11 clubs present!
DCM Recap:
During this DCM, we had speakers talk about different opportunities for service in the months of June and July. Most importantly, Relay for Life and Tour De Cure were discussed. Also, at the end, I reported the logistics for events that i would like ALL clubs to be able to attend.
Relay for Life: Helping organize and setting up for the event, not just participating in the overnight camp. It is also suggested that it is likely that some RFL chairs, if contacted before hand, wouldn't be too strict on the 100 dollar minimum donation policy. Relay For Life events will be held at Campbell, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Sunnyvale. For more information please contact Mr. Ray Skitt.
Tour De Cure: The main need for Key Clubbers are for food stations and to cheer on the bike riders on June 10th. For more information please contact Mr. Jim Stinger

Logistics: Attending such events is very proactive, and in order to have all clubs be represented, it is extremely important that all clubs begin advertising and preparing NOW.
Relevant to these events is preparation year round through:
1) Communicate with Kiwanis and Faculty Advisors: Make sure that they attend board meetings. They should be updated with your current situations and can aid you with various affairs.
2) Plan Board Meetings over the summer: Have Kiwanis Advisors included, try to have them atleast once a month, and feel free to invite me!
These are the events and dates I would like for all of you to note down:
1) OTC, July 21st: This is an Officer Training Conference at Manresa State Beach in Watsonville. Members will learn about important resources available to them, which will aid them during their term. In order to attend, it is important that drivers be 21+ years of age, and that at least ONE advisor is present with each club. Estimated Costs:$6
2) RTC, September 29-30: This is Region Training Conference at Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda. Members will be able to learn more about the important traits and resources which will aid them in becoming successful members and officers! Again, drivers must be 21+ years of age, and ONE advisor is needed for every TEN key clubbers. The limit on members attending from each club is FOURTEEN. We will have a waitlist if there are any more interested members. Estimated Costs: Early Registration, $57; Late Registration, $67.
3) FRN, October 27th: This is Fall Rally North at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo. We will have buses to transport members to this event. Plan on advertising this event to members as early as possible, as this is one of the biggest rallies with thousands of Key Clubbers attending! It's a great way to increase interest in Key Club. Estimated Costs: Bus, $23; Ticket, ~$30
4) Conclave, January 26 or February 2: This is the event at which we will be electing the NEXT Lt. Governor. It's every important to the future of the division, and to have the most representative vote, ALL schools should be present. Estimated Costs: $6
5) DCON, March 22-24: This is District Convention, the biggest event of the year by far! This year, it will be held in Anaheim. You will be able to meet members from all over the District, ranging from SUNNY HAWAII to the DESERTS OF NEVADA, and everyone in between! Because this is a far trip, we will be taking buses to Anaheim! Also, realize that the registration must be received by ~February 22nd, which is approx. the time of the Mid Year Break. Please plan to have registration and paperwork done by the end of January, and try to determine any school paper work required for such a trip. This trip is rather expensive, and it is important that you begin advertising and fundraising EARLY. Please ask your sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs to support you with funds they may have allocated for the club you serve. Estimated Costs: Bus, ~$110; Convention Registration, $160 Early!; Hotel (per person), ~$100
Please Stay Tuned for the Next DCM Date, Time, & Location.
