Hello friends,

My ears perked up today at the mention of Blake on this morning’s edition of “Here and Now” on NPR.  Coleman Barks, English interpreter and poet, has recently written a book called “Rumi, The Big Red Book.”  It is a translated version of the Muslim poet’s work.  In the interview, Coleman compares Rumi’s work to Blake and Whitman, calling them all “love crazy (with the world around them)”  but tempered with discipline and surrender.  It was fun to hear Blake’s name mentioned, since we had just read some of his work in the last few days.  If you would like to hear the full interview (it is about 10 minutes long), you can listen at http://hereandnow.wbur.org/2011/1/18/rumi-poetry .

Best,

Jeanne Mulvanerty

Wow that's pretty cool.
I watched some of it, Rumi definitly (now that I've heard it) sounds like Blake and Whitman.
Thanks for the information.

I just read a few poems by Rumi and there definitely are some
similarities between his writing style and that of Blake and Whitman.
Very interesting! Thanks for the tip.
