New Chrome Beta

Chrome 2.0.3 beta is ready for testing, if anyone out there has the time (or remembers this dead group-- sorry!). This version is a pretty simple upgrade. Three things have been addressed:

1. Links should now open for everyone, no exceptions.
2. If you send a link without a protocol (no ://) it should assume http://
3. The rare memory leaks one or two people saw should never, ever happen again.

If anyone has any errors or can't get links to open, I'd love to hear about it. I just ask that you report the error with some helpful information.

I'm looking to push this release out on Monday, if possible. I know that's not much time, but these aren't major changes. If someone could leave their browser open for extended periods of time (more than a few hours, etc.) with the extension running to verify the memory leak error is gone, I'd appreciate it.

I seem to have a group of links that can't be marked as read. They open when I restart the browser and/or every couple of hours. Default installation settings using this email address.

I loaded up a new (empty) user profile in Chrome and installed only the 2.0.3 extension. I still get those pages at each launch.

Hi Jason,

Sorry for the delayed response. I just finished my homework for the night now, and still have quite a bit to do tomorrow. I must confess, I'm not sure exactly why these links are not being marked as seen in the database; the chrome extension receives the links, opens them, then turns right back around and sends them straight back to the server. So everything it's receiving should be received by the server. But either it's not, or there's some bug in the server software, because your links aren't getting marked as seen. I'll make some tweaks to the software in teh morning that will log some useful information, and hopefully help me get to the bottom of this. I'll post the updated .crx file here when I finish.

Is there a time you're available tomorrow to just load the page up over chat with me? It helps to know exactly when the timing is, so I can find your log messages amongst the hundreds on the production server.

Sorry you're having such issues with it. Clearly, the anticipated release date is going to have to get pushed back a little; that's ok though, because Moishe Lettvin, the Google engineer behind the Channel API, gave me an updated file for our implementation today I'd like to test out and get included in this release, if possible.
