If I go to

https://android2cloud.appspot.com/
or
https://android2cloud-dev.appspot.com/
or
https://MyAppName.appspot.com/

I get a page for sending a link from within the browser (with pages
for URL, target and comment).

At the top is "my email address/" followed by some sort of device
name. But I have seen this variously say:

Android
Browser
Hero (the name I named my device on my handset).

on different servers at different times. What does it mean?

That is the device you're sending from. It's using an unimplemented feature, the "default" device You can manually specify one by adding "?name=device" to the URL.

Thanks,

So the default device is probably different for different servers.

Can't quite see how this is useful yet though (I don't care where the
link comes from, but where it goes!) but I will wait and see. :)

Excited about the new build.

The problem with the default thing is that, right now, every device thinks it's the default. But yes, it could be different on different servers.

Where the link comes from will be important in later versions of the software. :)
