Hey guys,

First of all, thanks for agreeing to test for me. I really appreciate
it.

Second, I've just finished tweaking the 0.3 beta for the Android app.
You may need to uninstall your current version before you can download
the non-Market version. I'm not sure, though-- it's the exact same
package I'll be uploading to the Market if everything goes well, so
maybe I'm wrong.

Here's the info:

* This release addresses nothing but the account situation. It will
detect when you have no accounts, and prompt you to add one.
* This release also detects when you have multiple accounts, but no
settings on which to use, and prompts you to choose one.
* This release also detects when you only have one account and no
settings on which to use, and automatically uses that account

You should not, no matter what you do, be able to get away without
having an account set.

The file is here: http://groups.google.com/group/android2cloud-beta/web/android2cloud-0.3-beta.apk

I suggest just opening this email on your phone, and clicking the
link. It should prompt you to install as soon as it finishes
downloading.

Thanks again. You guys are amazing. If you could just write in once
you've tried everything you can think of to evade setting an account,
that'd be great. I'll hold off on publishing until you get back to me.

Thanks,
Paddy

I tried all three use cases and they worked they way you indicated. The first one-- no account, prompt to add. There is a dialog to choose yes, add or no, don't add; but of you choose no, you end up not having an account (obviously). I think it would make the most sense for that to just say something like, didn't detect and account, adding the default.

Jason,

That makes a lot of sense. I'm also going to go ahead and include some help buttons next to the inputs on the add account page, explaining what goes in each field. I'll hopefully have an updated build for you guys tonight.

Thanks for all your great work. :)

Thanks,

Hi Paddy,

It installs over the Market version just fine. It should always be
that way as long as you sign the apks using the same keystore :D.

Hey, glad you could join us. :) I've heard "should" before, but I wouldn't be surprised if, after I left out the warning, nobody could install. That's just how my luck works. :)

Thanks for beta testing. Sorry, everyone, on how delayed the new build has been-- I've been getting ready to move into a new apartment, go back to college, and resume my three jobs on campus, so I've been a stretched a little thin this week. :) Hopefully, I'll finish the new UI on the three hour drive tomorrow, and upload the build. Apologies again on how late it is.

And yes, I have seen the news about ChromeToPhone, and how it's going to implement the same functionality android2cloud has. I'm planning on keeping the project going anyways, because CTP is only 2.2+, while a2c is 1.5+. I've reached out to the CTP author, and he and I may be collaborating in the future, to keep our apps relatively similar. I'm not holding my breath, considering he's a Google engineer and I'm a college student learning how to teach English to teenagers, but I felt it was worth a shot. :)

Thanks,
Paddy
