Geez, we're really blowing this place up with betas, aren't we?

I know we have an active beta with the server AND the Android app right now. I'm superseding the current Android beta with a new one.

The reason is simple: the project is simply burning money faster than I can sustain indefinitely. I need to find a way to lower the costs (which the server update helps with) and perhaps recoup some of the losses (which is the beta I'm announcing now).

Because of this, I've enabled AdMob ads in the Android client. "But wait!", I hear you cry "You promised not to do that!" And you're right, I did. And I maintain that promise. These ads are, by default, disabled. If you go into preferences, you can opt into them as an easy way to give back to the project and help keep our server costs reasonable. To me, it's like offering a donate version, except you can turn it on and off at will, and it only costs you a slightly degraded experience.

I'd love any and all feedback you could offer. If everything works as expected, the new Android app will launch with the server, on 4/21.

Thanks for all your hard work,
Paddy

Not that I use your server but I've installed it anyway. It seems to work as far as I can see. It didn't show an ad for 2-3 startups after the first one, but recovered afterwards. Maybe my net connection was flakey.

Thanks for testing, and your support. :)

If your net connection is too slow/not active, the ads will not show up. It also may affect app performance, as the app may not be able to reach our server.

Thanks for the information!

Thanks,
Paddy
