Dear Sir,

We wish to invite you to participate in the 7th EarthWatch Conference on Water and Sanitation with the theme: WATER & SANITATION: WHERE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY MEET GOVERNANCE.

The EarthWatch Research Institute Ltge, Nigeria in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Port Harcourt presents this Two-Day event, which will hold from July 30 & 31, 2013 in the city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The event is aimed at finding a synergy between science and technology innovation that will ensure good governance in water and sanitation at the State and local level in Nigeria. This is a cue from the World Water Forum to produce sustainable governance structures for water and sanitation by 2015. This, of course, is to lead us to improved and sustainable service efficiency and resource management.

The event will hold in the city of Port Harcourt, the capital city of the oil-rich Rivers State, the oil and gas capital of Nigeria; and is well chosen due to the giant strides the State has made in in the sector these past six years. The State is one out of two States in the Niger Delta region with a well-thought-out and comprehensive legal framework for water and sanitation. Furthermore, the State has the World Bank, African Development Bank and the EU-UNICEF partnership, working together to strengthen the sector. The State also has a 15 Year Phase plan to achieve full coverage in the capital city of over 1 million population, and other areas. Being a coastal State, there are strong challenges to ensure provision of water, sanitation and energy in the coastal areas.

The Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi team in Rivers State has a determined focus to deliver on this mandate and in this UN International Year of Water Cooperation supported by the determination to cooperate with the best partners out there; and with the recent completion of the 71,000 tonne ultra-modern sewage treatment plant in the city of Greater Port Harcourt, this State is ripe for the plucking, which prompted it being our choice for this event location.

The EarthWatch Research Institute Ltge, (a not-for-profit organization based in the oil and gas city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria), organizers of the 7th EarthWatch Conference on Water and Sanitation, is an environmental sustainability and sustainable development organization dedicated to finding sustainable and innovative solutions to the myriad of challenges faced in our region, the Niger Delta and our country, Nigeria. To this effect, we need the support of global partners like your organization to help draw these experts and professionals to the conference to show how we can improve water and sanitation with the right and appropriate technology and governance.

Based on the fact that you are a key player in the sector, we invite you to participate in this event in whichever category you choose:

1. As a Lead Presenter (with cognate expertise and experience)
2. As a support Presenter (with relevant research and solution options)
3. As a Sponsor/Partner (i.e. support some participants, Lead Presenters, water utilities across the States [travel, accommodation, logistics, etc]; and other areas of need)
4. As a Participant

Dear Peter. Thank you for the invitation. I have been involved in a recent slow sand filter project in Ghana with Safe Water Network and am going to have a larger project this coming year in Liberia using ssf and rainwater catchment. I would be interesting in presenting at your conference, because our approach has brought sustainable safe water to communities hitherto fore not served, Is there any travel funding available? Not representing any large organization, I don't have that kind funding available. Regards, Humphrey Blackburn
