to 2nd Gen Conference Discussion
Hey everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I would like to spark some
discussion. Specifically, I think one of the goals of our conference is
to see what the 2nd Gen Church is doing well - it doesn't have to mean
what ALL the churches are doing well, but maybe there have been some
great ideas/programs that have effected a change in some churches you
personally know of.

I'll start off... there's a church in Chicago (New Life? Our pastor,
Daniel Jung is mentored by the senior pastor there, Pastor Brad) that
has implemented an accountability program.

We all know that accountability is an essential aspect of the Christian
life. But what is truly unique is that Pastor Brad is also in one
accountability group with several of his deacon/elders, while other
groups are made up of leaders, etc. We all know that accountability at
the top-most level is vital to 2nd Gen ministries; but at the same time
(at least in the Korean culture) a lot of leaders tend not to want to
share their weaknesses and failures with other pastors, so they are
more prone to not participating in accountability at all, let alone
with their own church members.

Pastor Brad has shared his insights and program details with our
church, Hebron Community Church (I'm the teaching/small groups pastor -
until the end of Dec 2006, at least - www.hebroncommunity.org) and
we've implemented it. One thing he shared was how honest he is, but at
the same time how he is taking a huge risk in terms of trusting the
very people who could call for his resignation! I myself know that risk
and it's very unnerving - yet at the same time, very freeing when you
share failings and weaknesses with people who don't see you as "the
pastor" so much as a brother.

I think that this addresses a need in the 2nd Gen Church that can be
implemented in any church dynamic.

In any case, if you find this post interesting, please reply to it, or
even better, please share some other successful ideas/programs that
have effected change in the people and the Church.

Thanks!

john;)
