Hi Team,

To prepare for Cal Day on Saturday:

Emily: prepare a one page doc about the elecmeter
Caro: prepare a one page doc for the 24 hour watch
Vu: prepare a poster
SiSi; make a survey and questions we should ask people
Duncan: I don't recall what you are doing

Please sign up for Cal Day tabling:
10-12 Caroline
10:12: Emily
12-2?
12-2?

Separately, at my program happy hour I was talking to someone who gave me an interesting idea. He told me that there are some places where instead of post-paying for electricity, people pre-pay. Watching your available balance go down apparently provides a fairly powerful incentive to reduce consumption.

We could incorporate this idea, even without the threat of actual power cutoffs. The device could ask users to set a target for how much electricity they would like to use over the next month, and then it would just count down to that level. This provides a sense of gamification, and it also demonstrates between "good power" and "bad power" (though not in a demand response kind of way).

I found this to be compelling because I can actually imagine it affecting my own behavior, which hasn't been true about many of our devices.

Anyway, I thought I would throw that out there. We can chat about it at Cal Day if we are there at the same times.

Peace,
Emily

duncan is researchin tech specs/feasibility in general, but not specifically for the tradeshow. maybe give us a rough estimate of better pricing for each of the specified devices?

Hi ,
On Saturday, I can only be at the Cal Day from 10 to 11 am. I just got a grading duty for my GSI class today , and I need to grade the exam on Saturday from 11 am.

Okay, how about this plan:
Vu: 9:50-11
Emily: 10-11:30
Caroline: 11-12
And if Sisi or Duncan can come at 11:30, we can continue past noon.

SiSi: can you send out whatever survey you have come up with? I can print them out at home before I show up tomorrow.

Caroline, if you can send me the one page explanation sheet, I will print both such sheets (also the one I am making) Please also send the images for the 24 hour watch. I will bring a computer that will let us set up without you (I am just thinking this so that we can each be there for a little less time). Then you should bring your computer when you arrive so that I can take mine with me when I leave.

Thanks,
Emily

Here is the prototype survey. Leme know if you want to make changes. It's also in the google drive folder. Will get hopping on the interview questions now.

i updated a thing called CAL DAY interview questions doc on the google drive as a basis of starting at 5 min interview with someone.

CAL DAY 5 Minute Interview Questions

Do you consider yourself an energy (electricity) conscious person?

Why do you consider yourself an energy conscious person? What “energy-conscious” habits do you have?

Do you know what demand-response is? What is demand-response? (tell them if they do not know)

Do you know where you use the most energy and electricity?

Do you think you could be making smarter energy choices than you do right now? What’s some examples of stuff you think you could do better?

What gets in the way of you making those smarter-energy decisions?

those are the questions. what do you guys think? download something on your phone to take voice recording of your interview with someone. otherwise ask the other person at the booth to take notes for you if possible. if worse comes to worse, then take notes yourself!

It seems that no one in our product design class knew which room we are assigned to. Everyone who I asked said to just look around the 3rd floor of etcheverry. Maybe try 3110 first, I guess.

I think we need to get responses on how much they would pay for our product.
I'll mock something up,

I modified the survey to ask how much people would pay.

Hey all, we are in room 3110.

sisi and Duncan, are you planning on coming? If so, what time? I'm leaving at 11:30 and Caroline at 12, so if neither of you are here by then, Caroline will have to pack up and close down.

Also, Caroline and I are both equipped with laptops that permit showing the clock. If one of you is going to keep our table open after Caroline leaves, you'll need to bring a laptop.

Peace,
Emily

i dont understand what you mean. the survey already asks people how much to pay. it's in the table at the bottom. i dont think you should just say "how much do you want to pay for this, write a number" its much easier to give them ranges to choose from.

why do both emily and duncan think the survey does not ask how much people are willing to pay for the product?

Sorry, I should have said "i modified the survey" (slightly) and that it currently asks "how much would you be willing to pay."

FYI, this is how I changed the survey. Mostly made it shorter to fit on half a page. Also changed demand response terms since this is no longer the central focus of the product.
