Dear Dr. Fab,
I am sending my unpublished poem for your new anthology!
Thanks and Regards
Valsa George

Resurrection

Behind the flickering shadow
There stood, in a corner in dim light
A spectral figure, emaciated!
Fatigue seemed to wrench his throat
He was all bones, jutting bones

My glance lingered on his palsied hands
And his disintegrating face
He looked at me in turn, making me feel restless
I looked away, unable to face his glassy stare
In wavering tone he said-
“I am a creature of your times
One- aeons begot...... and then forgot!
I carry on my shoulders the weight of generations
Those gone, now living and the ones yet to come
It was I who gave voice to the frozen silence.
Now I starve for love”....
I saw the ashes of desire lying congealed in his eyes!

In his outstretched hands was an empty pitcher

Between us....there developed a disturbing disquiet
His lips no more parted
To echo the screams within

Into the hollowness of that empty pitcher
I poured the liquid in my hand
I saw him drinking deep as if it was elixir
A new energy swept over him
Like flesh returning to the bones of the dead
He smiled,.... his famished look totally gone
With eyes ejecting light, he said softly.....
“I am Life and the liquid you poured is Love”

Was it in the vortex of a dream that I heard those words?
But it was clear like a train’s sharp siren that slowly faded
As the sound of a muffled horn, lost in city noises,
Lending the whole encounter the gossamer feel of a dream!
