Hello,

I am playing with Kazoo v3, I have an install with 3 machines, Kazoo - Freeswitch - Couchdb. Most of the features are working very well through the UI and APIs, I managed to install international DIDs but I don't get any email notification (Voicemail, Fax, Password ..etc)

I don't find any log with errors related to the email notification failure, how can I troubleshoot this further?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Regards,
Juliano

First, ensure the 'notify' whapp is running on at least one whapps VM:

sup whapps_controller running_apps

notify should be in the list. If not, execute:

sup whapps_controller start_app notify

After that, check your 2600hz-platform.log for log lines related to
notify_vm (or notify_fax, etc), for errors. Barring errors there,
check the postfix logs.

Also, please make sure postfix is installed.

And also, that you have a user attached to your voicemail box who has the
checkboxes for notifications ENABLED in the GUI

I just installed and started postfix on the Kazoo machine and I am now receiving email notifications from Kazoo.

I will now try to set Kazoo to send faxes

Thanks!

Two questions:

1. Is the notify app still running
2. Is the account newly created (since you updated the system to 3.20+)?

Regarding #2, the notify app is being deprecated in favor of the
'teletype' application. Any new accounts will be set to use teletype
instead of notify for processing these email notifications.

Both notify and teletype should be able to co-exist, but obviously
you'll need to add teletype to your app startup list.

Hi James

How are you? Thanks for responding.

answers

1. yes notify is running
2. Its an old account, but the vm box is new

Ill spin up teletype to see if that helps, but i supose it should ust
work with notify right?

A restart fixed it , but still curious because it comes back SOMETIMES

However no email is delivered, i can confirm postfix is working.

also in couch system config the default is set to notify, but i do see
that i have a smtp_client doc with content, would that be used somewhere
(maybe in this scenario?)

You need to verify that the notify app is bound to that broker as
well, so that it can receive the notification payload. Do you have
multiple instances running?

Hi James

To make it more simple i have shutdown one Kazoo box

I have now:

1 kazoo kamailio box
2 fs
3 couch

Im unsure how to check if the notify app is bound to that broker, but as
its the only one i would asume so.

You could restart the notify app and grep the kazoo logs to see what
it binds for; you could also check the RabbitMQ interface for the
'notify_listener' queue to see the bindings it has.

That's the key.

Regarding the interface, RabbitMQ provides a UI:

http://ip.of.broker:15672

There is a Queues tab where you can see what queues exist, how many
consumers there are, what bindings they have, etc.

Hi James

Nice tool! ))) Funny to find out about it only now.
Its shielded of but its wise to change the default username anyway i guess.

All is bound to the sip1 box, sip2 is offline so its logical and thats what i see in the Rabbit gui

Can i see the mesages irt? Then i might be able to really see the message comming to the queu and perhaps a response

You would need to use ngrep or similar to capture the traffic going
to/from the broker. Kazoo, almost without exception, instructs the
broker to deliver a message from the queue to a consumer immediately,
so you can't look at the broker's UI to see messages flowing.

Ok, thats beyond my knowledge, ill have to figure that out.

But as we can see that the message is published is there a way to debug notify to see why it does not respond?

Hi james

I am running out of ideas, i have a single dev server that sents everything (system notification and vm notifications)

But my cluster does not, it does sent system notifications, so it could work but for some reason voicemails not.

Is there an example message i could sent to rabbit to test this without calling into that callflow?
Or any other way to debug this??

You could modify notify_listener.erl, the handle_event function to log
when messages are received off the AMQP bus, then log whether notify
thinks it should process the message.

mmmm hahha that way above my skill set.

Its a database setting somewhere that got messed up i think, i have a dev server and a mini cluster, the cluster and dev are on the same versions, dev sents, but cluster does not.

I will find it, i thought i had it when i saw an emty notification emailaddres field in some vm boxes, but it seems that does nothing and email notifications are sent to user account emailaddress.
Those notification emailaddresses in vm box doc, what will we use that for later?

Hi,

No resolution at all yet, faxes and vm notifications are not sent via notify app, starting teletype gives an error and fills my logs at a teriible rate.
Funny thing is that system alerts notifications are sent in good order.

James idea was that i alter the code of the whapp to do logging of messages that it deals with but thats way more then i know about.

So sorry! cant help u, but would love a solution as well

Sorry for "hijacking" an old thread, but I had the similar case with my new installed 7 nodes cluster (CentOS 7, Kazoo V4.0).  Note to self, and perhaps others:
Didn't get any voicemail notification emails and a lot of errors when trying to restart teletype (and one error when trying to restart notify).
The solution was to restore all notification templates to default (don't know if I ever changed those but anyway). What I did was:

sup teletype_maintenance restore_system_templates

Then
systemctl restart kazoo-applications

Or reboot server(s). Then it worked!
