There is information in the kaspersky forums about real kaspersky
installations causing that error and there is also information elsewhere
about malware creating and using a klif.sys file.

Try to do this: - 1. Download KisKav6Remove.zip .
http://www.file.net/process/klif.sys.html Important: Some malware
camouflage themselves as klif.sys, particularly if they are located in
c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the klif.sys process
on your pc whether it is pest.

Hi Mike. The klif.sys file is in the windows system drivers folder. I was
unable to delete the file so i rebooted in safe mode and deleted it....but
the error message still keeps coming up? I do have a recollection of
deleting the online Kaspersky AV scanner from my downloaded files folder so
maybe its just missing that. Think i may just go back onto the Kaspersky
site and re-download the online scanner and leave it on my system to see if
that stops the errors from appearing. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the uninstall removed the files but didn't remove the
startup of the service. If you're the least bit daring, try this:
Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage". You should see a
window labled "Computer Management" and on the left should be a section
labeled "Services and Applications." Open "Services and Applications"
(click on the "+" sign) and then click on "Services". In the right pane
you should see a list with numerous entries, and at the bottom two tabs
labeled "Extended" and "Standard". Click "Standard" to get a less
cluttered view.
Now, here comes the tricky part.
Scroll through the list to see if you can find an entry labeled "KLIF
Service" or something like it. If you find it, double click it and you
should get a configuation panel for that service. If it's the right one,
it shouldn't be running; if it's running, you're looking at the wrong
entry.
Once you're sure you've found the right entry, change the "Startup type"
to "Disabled".
Now, Windows won't try to start the non-existent service at boot time.

Search your registry for occurrences of klif.sys. If you find it in one of
the "run" or "load" keys, first export that registry key and then delete
it.
As a first glance, run msconfig and look under services and autostarts.
