pdf files now printing only machine language

For some strange reason, all my pdf files are now being printed as machine
language (aka "garbaaage").
Print preview looks OK.

I tried reinstalling Adobe 8.1 -- same issue.

Peripherals include: Vista home prem & HP 1200 laserjet printer.

Wherein lies the problem? Adobe settings? Printer driver?

Even tried installing Adobe 9.2 but, for some peculiar reason, it would not
install (even in safe mode). So I may have to do a clean install.

Any suggestions.

Thanks. digger

Do a printer test by right clicking on the default printer in printers
and then left clicking on properties. As well see if the default printer
*is* the printer you have.

I am assuming that the only problem youhave is with pdf's

and Word documents or images are all OK

If so give Foxit a try

http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

If it still prints garbage
then there is something wrong with your printer drivers I'd think

Well.. after verifying the default printer status, etc., I tried your
suggestion but used another pdf program instead -- pdfEDIT -- and it printed
all pdf files perfectly. (As I said before, it was only the pdf docs which
were printing garbage, via Adobe.)

So, just for kicks, maybe I will uninstall Adobe 8 and try to install Adobe
9. And if that don't work, I'll substitute foxit.

Thanks for the clue!

OK

glad you are making progress

I got rid of Adobe quite a while ago simply due to the extreme bloat

Foxit has been working fine

Delete the directory Adobe reader was in and reboot *before* you install
it again.

Nope. Just you which is due to your complete lack of knowledge of
repairing windows problems

I'm serious, chuck ---- why are you suggesting deletion of the directory
Adobe reader was in after you'd uninstalled it? I have to admit I may not be
up to all the specialized jargon, but by "directory" I'm assuming you mean
the "folder" that the Adpbe program was in.
It's been my experience that after uninstallation of a program, the folder
itself will remain, but it will be empty. So what is the point of deleting
it?
Eagerly awaiting your answer . . .

Yes, c:\program files\adobe... or what ever. So long as it *is* the
directory only adobe was in. Because some corrupted files and/or
settings may be left behind and the installer may be "intelligent"
enough not to over-write them. This would mean the problem would still
exist after uninstalling rebooting and reinstalling.

I could understand that if something was, as you say, "left behind".
However, if, as I said, the folder is *empty*, what is the point of deleting
it? (And yes, I have it set up to show hidden files)

Well you'd have to check just before and/or after rebooting, but that's
aside from the point. The point is nobody ever does check it.
