A friend recently downloaded IE 8, now websites are displaying at a very
large size. A horizontal scroll bar is needed to view websites. What is
causing this problem and how can he correct it?

Thanks.

Lower right hand corner of IE window click on it to change resolution,
change it to 100%.

The question is what on these (unnamed or given) websites is big. Is it
a particular font, are the icons on your desktop larger or smaller than
the end of your thumb when you hold it against the screen. What
*exactly* *is* big? If you don't tell us, we have no way of knowing.

A classic case of a hard drive that needs to be formatted.

Did IE6 have this?

I went from IE6 to IE8 and, soon afterwards, was alarmed to find that
some web pages were suddenly being displayed very small indeed. I can't
remember what I did to resolve things. However, one day, I realised that
there was this size control which I had previously been unaware of. I'm
sure that my problem was that it had somehow got set to 150%.

Make sure the status bar is displayed. Then look in the lower right corner
of the web browser's window (right-end of the status bar) and check what
zoom level is being used.
