What is it with cops and tasers? Are those things addictive or are there

Good old Chicago cops

I recall that when I was in school
we took a bus trip to Chicago to visit the Museum of Science and Industry.

There was a nice traffic jam due to some woman's car being stalled
and everyone was honking at her...but she did not know what to do.

Finally a nice police man showed up and I said to myself:

"Now things are going to get all straightened out."

He walked up to the car and growled at her : "Move it lady!"

When she told him the car had stalled and she could not move it...
he wrote her out a ticket for obstructing traffic

then walked away.

Eventually our bus got past her.

She's probably still there

Although there are coppers here in the UK certified and qualified to carry
and use tasers, and I've heard that they are occasionally used (in
extremis), I've never actually seen one.

The taser has become a crutch to the cops. Don't like the attitude? Taser
the SOB. But this cop has a mental problem for sure. If he hasn't been
suspended or fired, he should be.

Once those things are fired, it takes a minute or two to reset them and
this asshole cop does it 11 times? What the hell were the paramedics doing
about it? None of his cop buddies said nothing? The way I see it, the whole
bunch of them should be sued.

If one shot can take a 300 pound man down, why do you even do it a second
time?

I was in florida last year at a motel. Lady cop shows up to evict a guy in
a room near mine. The door is locked from the inside with the keeper
attached. I noticed she had her taser in hand. I just shook my head in
disbelief. Like lady, you got any brains? Oh you're blonde, sorry. To open
the door, the door has to be fully closed first. So that in itself gives
her an edge. But her big buddy comes along to help out. Still has taser in
hand. Totally ignorant cop for sure.

This ruling came a tad late for the above case. But will keep it from being
repeated, we hope.

A football star lets his brother drive his expensive car for a night out
on the town by himself.

The cops pulled him over. Several of them showed up. They hand-cuffed
the man and took him to the ground.

While they were standing around chatting, one of the cops decided he was
going to sit on the man's chest. The cop sat on the man's chest for a
long time and cut off the man's ability to breath.

The man died on the spot.

REAL "law abiding citizens" have nothing to fear from the police.
If one isn't breaking the law and isn't interferring with the cops
doing their duty, they won't get a taser attack.

It's interesting to me that in real life, criminals are pretty
dumb, unlike the TV crime shows. They are also generally guilty,
unlike the cop shows. "Don't do the crime if you can't do the
time".

This man did, for nothing more than being ill. Oh wait, it must
have been his own fault for being a diabetic. Or maybe if he was
genetically predisposed, it's his own fault for picking his
parents? Shame on him.

You mean Rush must have really been a drug addict, and "Scooter"
Libby must have really done what he was convicted of? Those weren't
"politically motivated" prosecutions?

Well, not really "through their torso". Through the flesh which is
between the two electrodes, which are a very short distance apart.

Quite a different thing.

Its amazing what you can get out of a 9volt battery and a capacitor.
You can use it to light a ciggy even.

Back in the days before electronic ignitions a popular prank among mechanics
was to load-up a condenser via spark plug wire, yell "Catch"! ... and throw
it at the new guy.

Nope. Simple device. About the size of a couple packs of cards laid end
to end longways with four electrodes (Two facing each other.) One button.
Takes a common 9volt battery. Non descript black with no logos or anything.

Funny how you should try to make yourself look intelligent by invoking
Ohm's Law on one hand and questioning why one should have a short a phone
extension cable as possible on the other.

Wrong, you fucked in the head, know-nothing fuckweed. Current kills.
Voltage does not. Humans can survive 100,000v at 10mA, but they will die
when hit by 1v at 100A.

ROFL. I'd say you just proved that about yourself.Ohms law is: E=IR or
with a tiny amount of algebra I=E/R. Or in english the amount of currect
is directly in proportion to the voltage and inversely to the
resistance. The resistance of the human body won't change - at least not
until it gets how enough to create steam, by which point you'd be dead
anyways.

E= electromotive force or voltage
I=a measure of the number of columbs/second or current in amps
R=resistance in ohms or in another way - friction counteracting voltage.

Where did I claim that "volts kill"...?

That's right, I didn't.

Your cluelessness is a reference to *your* claim that grabbing onto a
line with 10000000000000000 volts on it "with only 1 amp flowing" would
result in nothing. You're stupid because: 1. You don't think 1 amp
will kill you? 2. As soon as you grab onto it, assuming you're standing
on the ground, there will be a LOT more than 1 amp flowing. All of it
right through your body.

Run along, junior. You don't know shit.

Apparently he didn't even attend highschool. Otherwise he would've seen all
those kids dying, uh huh, when the physics teacher had them touch a Van de
Graf generator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_de_Graaff_generator) that
produces up to 5 MEGAVOLTS volts. The student touches one hand to make
their hair stand on end and make glow the fluorscent tube in their other
hand. That must've been one hell of a liability insurance policy that let
the physics teacher kill students every year as a new batch attended his
class.

And, of course, everyone that produces a static spark instantly dies.
That's why folks are so concerned about their bubble of safety in winter.
Uh huh.

If that 10000000000 whatever voltage supply is capable of pushing 1 amp
through the human body, it will kill you.

A Van de Graf generator produces a static charge. It also is not capable of
sourcing enough current to hurt you. A 110VAC household outlet capable of
supplying up to 15-20 amps will push enough current through your body to
send your heart into ventricular fibrillation.

No, it's not the voltage that kills you, it's the current, but if the
voltage source is also capable of supplying enough current, and your
body's resistance is low enough to allow that supply to push as little
as 50ma through the heart, it can kill you.

Yep, voltage. Even at super high voltage, the capacity isn't there to
delivery the current.

> It also is not capable of

Amperage. You're on the wrong argument. The claim is that voltage kills.
Nope.

Amperage again. Wrong argument again.

> No, it's not the voltage that kills you,

You're starting to get it.

> it's the current, but if the

Yep, if there is *capacity* to delivery the current based on old Ohm's law.

Voltage is the argument. Having high voltage does NOT mean there will be
sufficient current. Otherwise a static shock walking across the carpet
would kill you because obviously there is enough high voltage across the
approx. 10Kohms of your body to produce a high enough current to kill you -
except there isn't the stored capacity to produce that current!

So the argument still stands that voltage doesn't kill. Current kills but
there has to be the capacity to DELIVER that current.

So you are vehement agreement that voltage doesn't kill but current does.

I never said it did. Read what I wrote.
