"ThumbsPlus uses DirectShow (aka Active Movie) to display all animated
images, so all you need are codecs that support FLV files. The K-Lite
Codec Pack (Full) includes an FLV codec."
Elsewhere it says that FLV should be regarded as type MPG - MPEG video
But sadly FLV files will still not play in ThumbsPlus 7, even though
other players such as Windows Media Player 6.4 (or version 11) or
ZoomPlayer 2.9 play them OK, so clearly codecs are available on my
system.
I don't have access to cerious NGs so I hope someone here can help
TIA

The malfunction can be caused by a damaged negative dynophoton
transference internet, a damaged quantum plastiphoton dichotomising
core, or even an indeterminate accessireserve collapsing audio
proccessor. Did you kink the guidance singularity and redirect the
macrofield logfile? Check the continuum of the optiblade overflow
buffer.

Subject: Re: How to get ThumbsPlus 7 to play FLV files?

Hi,
You will need to install two things in order to play (and thumbnail)
Flash Video (*.flv) files in ThumbsPlus. The first one is a DirectShow
splitter, which will take care of splitting the video data from the
audio data when playing .flv files and then send both streams to the
corresponding DirectShow decoder. The other one is a DirectShow
decoder for the FLV video format. If you agree with this, proceed as
follows:
1) Install the FLV splitter:
1.a) Download and install the latest release of the FLV splitter
(v1.0.0.4, build 20080127 by now) from the following URL address:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=205650
(Click 'View older releases from the DirectShow Filters package' if
the FLV Splitter does not appear in the 'DirectShow Filters' section.)
1.b) Extract the files to a temporary folder in your system. Open the
Windows Explorer and copy the 'FLVSplitter.ax' file to the 'System32'
folder located inside the folder where your Windows is installed.
1.c) In Windows, go to Start | Run (or just press Win+R) and copy and
paste the following line:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\FLVSplitter.ax
Click OK and you should receive a message from Windows saying that
DllRegisterServer in the FLVSplitter.ax file was succeeded.
2) Install the FLV video format DirectShow decoder:
2.a) Download and install the latest release of FFDshow from the
following URL address:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941
(latest release in the 'Nightly builds by clsid' section, 'generic
builds' sub-section, is by now revision 1960)
2.b) Run the FFDShow installer and follow the install wizard
instructions. In the 'Select Components' page of the wizard, make sure
only the 'ffdshow DirectShow filter' option is checked (Uncheck 'VFW
interface' and all other sub-options). In the 'Select Additional
Tasks' page of the wizard, check only the 'FLV1, FLV4' option inside
the 'Decode the following video formats with ffdshow' section and
uncheck every other option. In the next two pages of the wizard,
'Management of compatibility issues (VIDEO)' and 'Management of
compatibility issues (AUDIO)', select 'Do not limit'. When you reach
the 'Ready to install' page, you should read the following in the
installation summary ('Destination folder' is of course the one you
chomay be different):
Destination location:
(the one you have chosen in the first page of the wizard)
Setup type:
Normal
Selected components:
ffdshow DirectShow filter
Start Menu folder:
ffdshow
Additional tasks:
Decode the following video formats with ffdshow:
FLV1, FLV4
Now, click the Install button to start the installation process. Once
installed, the wizard will show the 'Completing the ffdshow Setup
Wizard' page. Check the 'Run video decoder configuration' option and
click the 'Finish' button. If you need help with any message shown by
the FFDShow installer, please do not hesitate to ask me.
2.c) Once inside the 'ffdshow video decoder configuration' dialog, go
to the 'Codecs' section in the left, and make sure the 'libavcodec'
decoder is selected for both, the FLV1 and VP6F formats. Click the OK
button to close the dialog.
From now on, you will be able to play any .flv file using your
preferred DirectShow compatible player.
3) Configure .flv file type support in ThumbsPlus:
3.a) Open ThumbsPlus 7 SP2 and go to 'Options | Preferences', and then
to the 'File Types' tab.
3.b) Click the 'New' button and complete the new file type
configuration as follows:
Extension: Just write 'flv' (without the quotes).
Description: Flash Video
Equivalent to type: select "avi - Video for Windows" or
"mpg - MPEG video"
Click OK to add the .flv file type, and then OK again to close the
ThumbsPlus Preferences dialog.
3.c) Done. Now you should be able to play and thumbnail any .flv file
in ThumbsPlus.

I love Thumbs+, but still use ver. 3.30 since I do not believe a
program should triple in size every couple of years for no
apparent good reason.
As for FLV's, just get RIVA FLV player and be done with it.
Geez. The procedure Mr. Filippa describes sounds rather painful
to put it mildly.

I already have 3 programs that can play FLVs but the whole point was
to be able to play FLVs inside TP - you see the thumbnail, you want
to see how it plays..
Personally, I just clean the thumbnail with a little brush and
soap or cut it with one of those little Korean nail cutters when
it gets too long.
When I want to see a video, I use a video player. And I rename
the files if the title is not clear enough.
