I believe that clicking delete does not eliminate
an item completely, but how DO I delete files so
that gone really means gone? Windows XP Home SP 2.

The only *sure* way is to format your hard drive.

Bring up the properties of the recycle bin. You set it by the drive.

You're probably looking for Shift - Delete. This will delete the file(s)
without putting them into the Recycle Bin.

The only thing that happens in the windows "delete" is, the removal of the
directory structure. Which causes that reserved space to become available
and overwritten. The contents of the file are still there.

Download and install CCleaner.exe and it will add an option
to your recycle bin that if you choose that, will *permanently* delete
the files.

You need a basic Windows course from your local college.
This is Windows for Dummies stuff that you should know before you buy
a computer.

I've seen people here in Alabama who said it (the book) was to
complicated. I'm not kidding about this.

I told them to find someone else to help them. It wasn't worth a six
pack and his wife's tits hanging in my face to spend any time there.
