What's *that* all about? My puter's infected? Or don't websites
recognize Windows 98SE any more? Here's what I'm running:
Windows 98SE
Internet Explorer
Outlook Express
SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition
SpyBot S&D
Spyware Blaster
BTW, my question to Duracell was whether their USB drives (mfd by
Dane-Elec) were compatible w 98SE or if they could be made to work.
Thanks for helping,
Jm
I went to the Duracell website where their thumbdrives were promoted and
supported http://www.duracellflash.com/support.htm - Support for USB
Flash Drives
When I tried to use the contact interaction, the tools balked.
> What's *that* all about? My puter's infected?
I think the site's communication tools are b0rken.

Native 98se can have trouble with any USB devices. You may need to use
some USB aiding application such as HP's for thumbdrive to get cooperation.
I suspect that it is very unlikely that Duracell wants to talk to any of
its potential customers about that. Likely the duracell usb thumbdrive
was made by someone else who makes flash memory devices and duracell
just branded it with their label and no one who runs the support wants
to help you with your Win98se question.
I'm sure you can get a better deal on a usb thumbdrive at your local
electronics store when it is on sale than duracell's.
If I go to the duracell site and try to find out where I can buy the
product and it tells me numerous storefronts and gives me a couple of
online stores including target.com and I go to target's site and see the
retail price for a duracell 2G it is $15 and a 4G is $45.
That is outrageous. Forget about duracell's usb drive.

Question is, do you have a "D:\hosting\....." directory on your machine?
Did you use their web page or your client?
My guess is, they've got a problem that needs to be corrected. Probably a
simple typo error in their javascript crap.
Wild ain't it? Just a few years ago I paid around $50 or so for a little
old 500mb drive. So next year we'll see 1 or 2T's for $30?

IMO inmyopinion, this answer in the duracell kb is wrong:
http://snipr.com/tp2f7 Knowledge Base - Duracell Flash > USB Flash
Drives > Can I use my new USB Flash drive or USB Flash card reader on
Windows 95, 98, 98SE?
Unforutanely, no.
Our USB Flash drives and USB Flash memory card readers are designed to
be compatible with the industry standard USB Mass Storage Device Class
(MSC). Windows 95, 98, and 98SE do not provide native support for this
standard and so require special device drivers. Since Microsoft
discontinued support for those operating systems in July of 2006, device
driver development is no longer practical.
That is, they are right about lack of native support. They aren't right
about 'can I use...'

Here's a webforum discussion with some unhelpful info about the duracell
usb, along with a helpful link http://snipr.com/tp2p2 USB drive for
Win 98 SE
Here are the generic and the HP USB tools:

As I recall, USB support was not native until ME.
Depending on the USB device, drivers may have been needed for use in SE.

You recall incorrectly, RtS.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/253756
"USB support for Windows 95 is available in Original Equipment
Manufacturer (OEM) versions of Windows 95. .."
and later in the article:
"NOTE: All versions of Microsoft Windows 98 include USB support."

Thanks for answering. The Duracell is 4GB mfd by Dane-Elec, and cost $10
at Walgreens. Seemed like a good deal to take a chance on, and I can
still return it if I learn it *won't* work.
Nope.

Oh, well... : )
I got a free 4GB with a recent toner cartridge purchase at Office Max.
Didn't even ask for it, they just handed it to me when I paid.
