This law doesn't have much to do with the fat and sugar content of ice
cream itself. Apparently the Iowa capital banned ice cream trucks nearly
40 years ago when a nine-year-old was killed crossing the street after
purchasing her afternoon snack. While the child was hit by another driver,
not the ice cream truck, residents of Des Moines seem to think they're
better off getting rid of ice cream trucks, and are resisting business
initiatives to bring them back.
