FactoryDirect Hobbies is a family owned business based in Asheville, NC that began in 2006 as Factory Direct Trains. For 14 years, we focused on bringing our customers the finest, cutting edge model railroading products available. During that time, we've expanded our model railroading inventory to one of the widest and most up-to-date in the world. But we've also grown our customer base and offerings to include hobby products that go well beyond trains, like the Bandai Gundam franchise. Our goal is to provide the best selection of hobby products in the world, at prices that make purchasing from us easy.

Yes. We know that paying ahead of time can be unnerving when delivery dates are distant, and not every project makes it to the production line. Rest assured that, in the event the manufacturer cancels your preorder project, you will be refunded your 10% down payment.

The manufacturing process involves many different moving parts, and this complexity often renders production timelines unpredictable. Therefore, some level of unpredictability in timing is inherent to preordering hobby products. Down payments are not refundable in cases of routine manufacturing, delivery, or other short-term delays.

However, we know it can be frustrating when a project gets delayed for many months. In the event a project is delayed more than 6 months beyond the delivery window originally estimated by the manufacturer, we will handle refunds of down payments on a case-by-case basis.

Friendly Reminder: Should you choose to cancel a preorder, it will no longer be reserved for you; in the event the item becomes available on our website, all customers will have equal access to purchase the item.

Nope! The policy is not retroactive: if you already made a preorder reservation before this policy update, you do not owe a down payment for that reservation. However, any future preorders you make will require the 10% good-faith down payment.

We make every effort to keep our website updated with information that reflects manufacturers' current estimated delivery schedules. To find the estimated delivery month of an item, you can visit our Preorder Section and use the filters to narrow down your selection.

Approximately 30-45 days before your preorder items land at the warehouse, we'll email your invoice to you to pay in full. At this point, you'll be able to provide your shipping address and select your preferred shipping method.

Recently, our suppliers have made a major policy change and are no longer accepting product returns for non-paying end customers. We have tried our best to absorb the effects of this change; however, after more than a year of trying, we have found we cannot continue to do so. After much consideration, we unfortunately must also change our policies to align with the realities our suppliers have created.

One silver lining is that this change will result in preorder items getting to your door even faster, as all payment processing will be well out of the way and the usual several day wait after product has arrived will be eliminated. We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have questions or would like further clarification, feel free to contact us through the gold chat bubble.

Manufacturing schedules can sometimes be unpredictable. In the event your preorder item does not arrive at our warehouse within 60 days of your invoice payment, then you will have the option to cancel your preorder and receive a refund OR you may elect to continue waiting for the item.

For instance, with Athearn and Walthers, you can enter the part number into their websites and navigate to the item. Most of the time, the delivery date will be listed there. Broadway Limited has a published delivery schedule, as does Rapido.

I know. Gold medals again? Isn't there anything else to the Olympics? Well, apparently not in Sofia's mind. She's a bit fixated on the gold medals, and quite honestly, she's pretty dead set on the idea that winning is everything. We were playing a game of cards, and when she was losing, she threw up her cards and started to walk away in a huff. When I asked what happened, she said, "If I can't win, then I'm not playing!" Ugh. All I can say is that she is honestly her papa's daughter.

For this round of gold medals, we used air-dry clay (Model Magic to be exact). It's an amazing product because it is light weight, cutable, paintable, and it takes adhesives very well. Model Magic comes in a vareity of colors, but I always get white because then you can paint it any color you want!

We used glitter glue because it was the only gold we had. It actually worked out really well because it's much neater to use than loose glitter, and you can really cake it on because the adhesive dries clear. Leaving the glitter to shine.

Paint the medal with glitter glue. We didn't need a paintbrush. We simply squirted the glue out onto the medal. We used quite a thick layer because the adhesive dries clear, leaving the glitter behind. Allow that to dry completely (a few hours was sufficient). Then slip the ribbon through the slit on the medal, and glue the edges of the ribbon togther to fasten.

While often considered the bane of high school math class, geometry is embedded in our everyday life. Art, astronomy, interior design, and architecture all rely on geometry. So do navigation, maps, and route planning. At its core, geometry is a way to describe space, shapes, and distances using logical reasoning.

AlphaGeometry cleverly combines both features into a single system. It has two main components: A rule-bound logical model that attempts to find an answer, and a large language model to generate out-of-the-box ideas. If the AI fails to find a solution based on logical reasoning alone, the language model kicks in to provide new angles. The result is an AI with both creativity and reasoning skills that can explain its solution.

From there, the AI grasped rules of geometry and learned to work backwards from the solution to figure out if it needed to add any constructs. This cycle allowed the AI to learn from scratch without any human input.

Putting the AI to the test, the team challenged it with 30 Olympiad problems from over a decade of previous competitions. The generated results were evaluated by a previous Olympiad gold medalist, Evan Chen, to ensure their quality.

After being recognized with a gold medal for clarinet design at the Saint Louis exhibition in 1904 and facing stiff competition from other important french manufactures such as Evette-Schaeffer, Buffet-Crampon, Couesnon and Noblet, Henri Selmer was emboldened to diversify and industrialize his instrument production. In addition to the entire family of clarinets, Selmer began to manufacture bassons, oboes, english horns, flutes, and yes, SAXOPHONES. This expansion was facilitated by opening a new workshop in Mru and a factory in Gaillon in 1912.

The St. Louis Gold Medal Model saxophone was the first saxophone actually designed by Selmer, although actually manufactured in the shop of Adolphe Sax Jr. at 84 Rue Myrha in Paris. The earliest record of this model saxophone is from a 1910 Selmer Paris catalog. Saxophones of this vintage are refered to as the gold medal model because they are all engraved or stamped "Medaille D'OR St. Louis 1904" in recognition of the St. Louis expo gold medal. These instruments were manufactured in Bb straight soprano, alto, tenor and baritone. C-melody was also added later in the production run.

Henri Lefevre was the chief architect behind the new design of this model. He and his father, Paul, started working for Selmer in 1905 after leaving Maison Robert (a Parisian clarinet manufacture). His brother Maurice started working for Selmer in 1910. The Lefevre's were master craftsmen and Henri had manufactured several instruments of his own making that bore his name. It was one of these Henri Lefevre saxophones that caught the eye of Henri Selmer. The design was radicallly different from the saxophones that Selmer was having stenciled by Edouard Adolphe Sax prior to 1910. For one, the Lefevre sax was keyed down to low Bb with both bell keys facing to the left (as you play the instrument). The other distinct advantage was a unique single key octave mechanism. Because Selmer was not tooled for saxophone production in 1910, this new model was again stenciled at the Adolphe Sax workshop. However, this time, it was done using Henri Lefevre's design and with his direct supervision. This arrangement forged an even closer relationship and intermingling between the factories of Henri Selmer and Adolphe Sax Jr. which culminated in 1928 when Selmer bought the Adolphe Sax factory, tooling, patterns, inventories and all rights to the name.
