Hi Ian:

This will be my first year doing the 24 hours on a team, not solo, and
we have a question on the swim transition.

Are we allowed to change team members at the waters edge? In long
terms... if swimmer A does the swim, can she tag swimmer B when she
comes out of the water and have them run up and down and then swim?
(tagging swimmer C when he comes out of the water)?

Just thinking this would be alot more fun, since then we could hang
out down by the trees and watch each other swim when we do a long swim
set...

Thanks!
Leslie

Hi Leslie,

All transitions must be done in the Transition Area, so you can't do
your change overs at waters edge.

Although not ideal for athletes, it does allow the timing crew deal
with 4 timing stations and mats in the TA without setting up a 5th
with generator and staff by the water and another few hundred yards of
computer cable ...

Hope that helps!

Ian

Leslie,
I competed in the three person team last year, and I am going to sign up again this year. Last year I did all 21 swims for our team as well as 6 bike laps and 2 run. I learned after about the third swim lap, that you want to wear shoes down to the waters edge, slip them off, swim, and then slip them back on. Each swim lap entails a 1/4 run as well. The ground is not condusive to barefoot running nless you have really tough feet. Last year they did lay down carpet remnants, but it wasn't enough for me, I wore Crocs and it worked out ok. Good luck, and see you there.
