Has anyone here been plagued recently by this in the lower right hand corner every five minutes?

or similar such messages.

Putting that image in Google there's a hundred hits but the responses themselves are so complicated and full of ads that it seems like they are source of malware themselves.

Do you have any flavor of McAffe Anti-Virus installed?

If so -  you've a bit of clean up to take care of. Time to read their manual or visit their customer support for guidance and follow instructions. 

Honestly, if it were my system - I'd have already ensured backups were current and clean and then do a full wipe and re-install. 

Scan any and all data before restoring - and again post recovery. Even then, there's a real chance of missing an infector and having to do it all over again, different.

If you don't have McAffe AV installed, yea - something else is going on and you've some more difficult cleaning to take care of. If you're lucky, just a trojan/extension attached to whatever browser you're using. But as these appear to be 'system' pop-ups, not likely.

Sorry, can't help any further - i quit using Windows as an Inet accessible OS for these reasons over a decade ago.

Must admit, I wonder if it may just be a Microsoft campaign to get you to install Edge and quit using whatever it is you're using for a browser. Bit of a reach even for MS, but not out of the realm of possibility
