We had a great day of training at Wesley Memorial in Wilmington
yesterday. Bill, Steve, Jay and Donna took care of all the
arrangements and made us feel very welcome.

We spent more time on MySpace yesterday than we did the previous week.
After reviewing the basics of MySpace I asked the group why they
thought MySpace was so popular. They gave some great responses.

1. It is empowering.
2. Kids can define themselves in the way they want to instead of being
defined and classified by others.
3. Kids who are shy in real life feel more free to express themselves.

Do you have any recommendations for setting up a church webpage? For
instance, which host to use? We were looking at churchwebsites.com.

Lynn,
If I may make an attempt to offer an answer:
If you have someone in your church with the capability to create and manage
a page, an excellent option is the web hosting provided by the conference.
It's $50 for 3 years, so you really can't beat the price.

If you don't have someone with the technical skill and software to create
and manage, then you might consider eZekiel, which offers hosting, some
setup and a number of utilities. You can pay for different levels of
hosting and features based on your needs. United Methodist Communications
has worked a discount for United Methodist Churches. Go to the tech shop at
UMCom for more information.

On this list, we have had a discussion of the "Web Empowered Church" which
has some interesting "Open Source" content management products for churches
(http://webempoweredchurch.com/). Software is free, hosting is not. They
do have a hosting service called "Vine Hosting." Apparently there is a fair
amount of buzz about this, but so far none of us has any experience with
them. However, there is an excellent presentation on the webempoweredchurch
website, providing a broad vision of how the web can work for churches. You
can read the group discussion here:
