Dear Friends,
Here is my poem for summer. A very simple but cherished memory of one of our typical events during summer time in Belgium.
I hope you enjoy.
Hereby I confirm that the poem is unpublished.
Hans Van Rostenberghe
A sweet summer memory
A beautiful day in early July,
Exams over, summer holiday!
A bright sun in an all blue sky;
To the beach, we’re on our way
Along the road, fields of corn and wheat
Hide the flatness of the land.
After a bit of traffic, at quite a low speed
We reach the dunes of sand.
We find the most fantastic spot
We spread the blankets out
What a superb feeling, my God,
Family, friends, a happy crowd.
A Picnic that had been carefully prepared,
A scrumptious cone from the ice cream man
A dive in cold water, we’re not scared
Some sun screen, here comes a tan
A Frisbee, a book, a ball,
Something of joy for all,
But not after long, it’s late afternoon,
Time to go back, all too soon!
