I thought we had done some feedback on this (or was all that just an informal chat with councillors etc???) ….

The stand out issue I think is Moore Street where as far as I can see the only reason for 30 is some strange sort of logic about dual carriageway,  or maybe ‘not very residential’ but surely this is best as 20? The confusion of a few 100 metres of 30 within a large 20 zone is the sort of thing that I think brings riducule from some drivers, and certainly is confusing.

Is it worth an individual response on this and any other changes we think are right? Is it most powerful for groups to have a view, CycleSheffield and 20splenty??

best

pete

CycleSheffield are happy to write in support or write in support but raise possible issues (such as Moore St).

I would not expect this to make any difference to what SCC actually implement though.

Id like some justification for  Arundel Gate / Eyre St staying at 30 . Cant think its to do with traffic flow as its not an obvious through route. Pressure from the bus companies?  Early prep for the driverless car revolution?

Being a glass-half-full kind of guy, I tend to think, here are 300 streets being made 20mph, and you are obsessing with the 2 that are not. Leaving these 2 at at 30mph would strengthen the case for proper segregated cycleways along them - they are too busy for safe cycling by non-vehicular cyclists anyway and you can't get along them when you hit a wall of stationary buses.

Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised when the Greystones 20 mph zone was extended following what the council terms "objections" from Nether Green residents, so who knows, you may be able to get them to fill the glass over the line, if you'll forgive my stretching of the drinking analogy.

Take your point about half empty.

Had a quick look at collision map for Eyre St, Arundel Gate . In the
recent data (from dec 2012 to 2015) there are 14 incidents all listed as
"slight" .

Vehicle only incidents on the roundabout at Furnival Square (Sheffield
the only city where roundabouts are known as squares?).

Cluster of incidents with both pedestrians and vehicles involved at the
Matilda St junction and where you filter left for Norfolk St across the
bus lane.

Hi all,

As Simon says, it’s a good result to get the council to address a 20mph zone in the part of the city with the most accidents.  It’s something the Green councillors have been plugging in budget amendment proposals for a few years so it’s nice to see it translating into reality.

I raised some detailed queries with officers about a number of the roads to be left as 30mph limits – in fact, almost all of the roads except the ring road itself.  One reason given is that some of the bigger roads would often have people ignoring  a 20mph speed limit and, without active enforcement, this would bring the whole 20mph scheme into disrepute.

Of course the answer to this is actual enforcement …. But I imagine that is a different story.

Regards,

Douglas

Collision data isn't everything. What about all the people who would never consider riding along Moore St or Arundel Gate because it just looks so scary, buses and other traffic all over the place? (I know a few) A 20mph limit isn't going to make much difference to them. These roads fit the profile for the Cyclenation  policy "When cycling, people should only be expected to share space with motor traffic where volumes are low. On key routes this should not exceed the Dutch maximum for main cycle routes, 2,000 Passenger Car Units per day."

hello, has a consensus been reached over the response? I was planning basically to copy 20's plenty for the CycleSheffield one.
