Based on the rulebook statement that teams may not contact “any municipality or governing agency affiliated with the project," we have understood that reaching out to Alexander City is not permitted. We also understand this prohibits teams from overwhelming city staff with student questions when they are managing more tangible projects.

My team has done extensive due diligence using all publicly available resources, but accurate permitting information for Alexander City has been difficult to obtain. This has been frustrating, as permitting is the one remaining area preventing us from completing our work.

We can make an educated guess or predict what the fees might be, but do not wish to be penalized for an inaccurate amount.

Are we or are we not allowed to contact Alexander City for this information? And if not, can competition staff provide the necessary permitting details so we can make correct calculations?

For the purposes of your analysis, you should base your permitting assumptions on publicly available information and clearly state any assumptions you make in your deliverables. You can assume that you will receive a permit and the building permit has a set fee of approximately $2750.  Again, that fee is for building permit only.
