Hello all!
Hope you’re all getting excited for the conference, I know I am! Just one more thing on my agenda, and that’s this walking tour to the opening reception.
So the program says that beginning at 6, people can walk over from the hotel and there will be guides along the way. In fact what I hope will happen is that a few volunteers will wait by the exit a little before 6 (I asked Shermer for a sign saying gather here for a guided walk to the opening reception), and lead small groups of people as they’re ready, spacing about 2-5 minutes between groups, or as people show up. I have attached the “script” and map of the route. When I test-ran it yesterday it took me about 20 minutes. You can read as much or as little from the info on the script as people seem interested in.
There will also be brochures (also attached) with a map and brief descriptions for people to take if they want to do a self-guided walk, but the guide script has a little more information than the brochures so we can sell people on the guided walk. There are currently 238 people signed up for the opening reception, and if we figure about half of them will want a guided tour, in groups no bigger than 15 people, then we probably need about 8-10 volunteer guides. Here are the people that I have a record of volunteering to help with this, and they are:
Jill Hall
Julie Donofrio
Alexis Williams
Justin Dula
Me J
Sue Myerov and Tom Shaffer signed up on the APA PA volunteer sheet for Reception assistance, which Keith said means helping get people there, but maybe we could use Sue and Tom to help people figure out their options for getting to the reception (Guided walk, self-guide brochure, or there will also be a bus in the event of bad weather), and/or direct people to the Ballroom once they reach the Visitor Center.
So I could use a few more volunteer guides to hang around and help walk people over for the Reception! All you have to do is print and read the script, or feel free to provide your own color commentary if you’re particularly familiar with the area. Please let me know if you can help out!
Regards,
