Dear 2013 Summer Intern Alumni:
I wanted to make you aware of a funding opportunity for your organization involving the 2020 Census. As you already likely know, we must count every person in Northeast Ohio. The Census will determine how we apportion representation in government, how private companies decide where to locate, and, most importantly, how much money our region will receive from the federal government. Each of the residents you serve will be directly impacted by this, so we need to ensure that everyone is counted. This year is the first time in our nation’s history that people can fill the census out online, which will introduce new opportunities and challenges.
In pursuit of the goal to count everyone, The Cleveland Foundation has teamed up with several other agencies to set up a series of micro-grants of between $500 and $5,000. They are for programs that will promote reaching hard-to-count communities (low income, children under 5, renters/transient, immigrant/refugee, Latinx community). The application is user-friendly and direct, as we want to make the grants available as quickly as possible. You can find a more detailed description, as well as the application, at the link below:
We hope that you will share this opportunity with your networks or choose to take advantage of this yourselves – we are trying to create a sense of urgency around this because if we aren’t all counted, there could be significant implications for Greater Cleveland.
If you have questions, please contact Juan Galeano, Cleveland Foundation Project Consultant for the 2020 Census, via email at jgal...@clevefdn.org or by calling 216.615.7146. We look forward to hearing from you.
