Hi Herb and Everyone,
It's so good to hear from you Herb and even better than that, you are going to be in town when I am still in town.

For everyone who is in Portland, let's get together the evening of 19th. By the way, I am leaving on 20th Will this date work for those who are in MAPW? And for those of you who are in other parts of the world and the United States, let's find some way to skype you in.

So, logistically, this is what we need:
1) Could someone please confirm that 19th works for MAPW'ers?
2) Who can host this get together?

I am having an amazing time at the Winter Intensive. I can understand what's going on much more this time. I now get what is occupied and unoccupied channel ;) I particular love that Alex Portland is also in the intensive. So great to have your company, Alex.

I love you all,
-Kanya

Herb McDonald Hello Everyone, I am assuming that whatever I write here will get to everyone in the 2013 Intensive Group; if that is not true, someone please tell me what to do! It was so wonderful to see all your names pop up on my screen in the last few days bringing memories of much warmth and love. Life has been generally good the past year with a typical mixture of good times, great times, and challenges-some quite interesting and others mostly bothersome. It is amazing to me how the inertia and momentum of one's established life tend to re-create the past. In other words. I really miss you all and the crazy fun we had a year ago! I've been trying to cultivate a PW community here, but we are in a drought here in the Southwest and growth has been slow. I have a couple friends who let me "practice" on them and so far, I don't think I have damaged anyone yet. Now for the future: I'm looking seriously at the next MAPW program. and more immediately, I will be in Oregon for the Yachats workshop in February. Will any of you be there as well? I will also be in Portland on 2/19-20 and would love to see some of you. I will probably stay at the NW Hostel again unless I get a better offer (that is kind of a hint). Much love and big hugs, Herb

Hello Kanya, Herb and all other friends from our Intensive!

Sorry for the belated response on this....I have been back in Portland for only two weeks, and after several months of travel and being away from my computer, it has been hard to log back on. Wonderful to hear from you Herb, and I look forward to connecting with you more in person. I am free the evening of the 19th and would LOVE to get together with any folks around (in face and/or via skype).  I don't have a place to offer as the 19th is a weekday and we have kids, so we wouldn't be able to have much fun ;) If we can't find someone to host it, we can pick a public place in the area...maybe near the Process Institute?

Much love,

Kai

Hi everyone,  When I heard about so many of you being in Portland and getting together I wish I were there, too.  And then I saw the announcement of Kate's class which I'd like to do attend.  I feel sooooooo far away, far away from a year ago, far away from our group and each of you, and now I'm sorry that I didn't sign up for the intensive 2014 -- but it just didn't feel like the right time, so here I am in Athens, Ohio, with lots of snow and challenging travel.  Instead of traveling to Portland, or driving around Athens, I've been walking, playing in the snow with some of my very young friends, reading, and hearing about all of you.   I miss you all so much and am cheering you on on your individual endeavors.

I continue to digest all I learned a year ago, with understandings emerging from somewhere deep within every now and then.  I have applied for training in Somatic Experiencing with the first training beginning in March, the class in Columbus, Ohio.  At first I was denied admission, but with my appeal and support from a friend who is a practitioner, I did get accepted.  Hopefully, this training will meet my immediate needs.  As I understand the training, I am not obligated for the whole first year, nor for the 4-year training, but only need to take it one step at a time.  That makes a lot of sense to me.  If you don't know about Somatic Experiencing and its originator, check out Peter Levine and SE on line.  The healing approach is certainly not unrelated to Process Work, but more focused -- and emphasizes the body (right up my alley).

Meg, please write and tell me about your experience in Kate's class.  Maybe I can attend vicariously through you?  I do continue to practice authentic movement with my friend in Athens which is a blessing  and  I can't remember if I told all of you that I did a dance performance in November.  It felt great, a first in a long time, and I now look forward to another opportunity.

Lots of love, Berry

Hey everyone!

Great to be hearing from folks and getting news ... our 4th MAPW residency ends 6pm Friday 19th so those of us in the cohort will be cut loose then and I think we all have the evening open thereafter ... Kanya has been hoping that we could actually have our reunion at PWI, which would be ideal for those of us who will be right there in the building ... it will also be easy to skype connect from there ... meeting somewhere close by would also be convenient but may not necessarily be so skypeable ... in any case hoping to connect with as many folks as possible!

Love and hugs,
Alex

Would be great to catch up this Friday after Arny's class ... class ends 6:30pm and I will have about an hour until the case supervision class at 7:30 which I also want to go to -- last week it was very compelling ...
Also certainly up for lunch on the 19th -- and I will be going to Yachats for for the Divination by Fire seminar that weekend too so hope to do more catching up then as well ...
Hugs,
Alex

Hi everyone,

I thought I would chime in, too. I'm back in my home state of Michigan after sticking in Portland until last June. I decided to leave the MAPW program at the end of the summer. I've been back staying with family while I face some health issues. You may remember me working on some fatigue symptoms in the Intensive last year -- for instance, when I was Amy's "client" in Kate's experiential lab. Chronic fatigue syndrome has been a part of my life since an Epstein Barr infection in 2011. Currently I've felt sick for more than 7 months -- the relapses come and go. Luckily I found a CFS specialist here in Michigan and he has started me on a new biomedical treatment. He's very optimistic about my regaining a lot of functionality by putting the viruses (there are actually two) into latency.

In the meantime, I'm working through a difficult decision process about what to do once I feel better! I'm considering seeking a license in clinical psychology (possibly working towards a PsyD). There's a small humanistic psychology school in southeast Michigan that might be a good fit. Yet a part of me still feels called to return to PWI, so I might rejoin the MAPW at some point -- perhaps combining process work and clinical psychology. (I considered transferring credit to the Certificate... but my gut is telling me not to.)

Illness is always hard, but thanks to PW I can see it as a teacher as well. Even aside from the illness, I wasn't ready to progress with the MAPW. First I had to process and integrate all that resurfaced in the Intensive and my early MAPW residencies. I've kept up individual sessions over Skype (yay technology!).

I was feeling jealous about people meeting up in Portland, traveling to Worldwork in Poland, and everything else. But at least my writing has been flowing again, and I'm back to work on a book project that I left unfinished when I first got sick in 2011. I may actually be done with it this spring! Michigan is a weird place -- very, very MAINSTREAM. I miss the feeling of being seen and heard, of being at-home and belonging, at PWI and in the Portland community. Still, there's a lot of work to be done in the Detroit area, and good people ready to make things happen. So this will probably be a main base for me in the coming years. But who knows...

Lots of love to everyone. Safe travels. And enjoy all the process work and other adventures.

Warmly,
Nick
