Winter Intensive Reunion

Hi Everyone!

I just saw Keren at the Wednesday farmer's market here in Portland and we talked about having a reunion next month for all of us from the intensive who are/will be within reach of PDX ... We were thinking of Sunday May 5th as a possible day -- maybe a potluck in the evening? -- the second MAPW residency will be starting shortly afterwards and more of us will be gathered back in town around then ... I'm happy to make my place available but open to all suggestions ...

Apart from that it's been a rich and interesting month for me so far ... I had my 40th birthday and celebration April 12th -- a really special day ... I had been looking forward to turning 40 and starting a new decade and whole new phase in my life -- and now it's here! ... Lots of different emotions came up, some quite unexpected but all part of an evolving process that I'm so excited about ... and lots of other interesting things unfolding too!

Well, those of you who might be able to make it, please let us know if May 5th would be a good day -- or if any alternatives would work better ... in any case I'm so much looking forward to seeing everyone who can be there!

Yay-excited for a reunion-in person and virtual! I am out of town May 3rd-May 7th -celebrating my 41st bday (wow!) with my sister and nieces. So hopefully this can take place when I am back, if not I will join by skype :)

So, it looks like there won't be a full complement of all of us in the area to gather until after May 7th, and May 8th doesn't look the best of Christopher ... so how do Thursday May 9th or Friday 10th work for people? ... the second MAPW residency starts on the 11th and goes on until the 22nd, so it would be great if we could catch up together before that ... but of course we can we lots more reunions in the future too! ... And it would be great to Skype in too with those who can't be with us in PDX ...

Hey everyone,

I'm so happy that it looks like one way or another at least a number of us will be able to get together before too long!

What I'm personally thinking right now is that Thursday 9th might be the best day ... seems like it might be the only good opportunity for Lauren and would also work for quite a few others of us ...

My feeling is that I'm not quite so sure about setting something up for during the residency ... there's a certain flow and intensity to it that can somewhat consume one's attention and it would maybe be nice to have our reunion separate from that ...

But, depending on the flow, we could also think of having a more spontaneous gathering during the residency as well and open it up to our cohort too ... just a thought ... another thing is that if we are going to have a specifically Intensive reunion it might be a bit odd to have a process work gathering during the residency and not invite the cohort ...

Well, those are simply my current thoughts ... I'm really open to what anyone has to suggest and hopefully a natural drift will emerge ...and of course it will be great if those who can't make it in person can Skype in too!

it seems like the consensus is to go with either thursday 9th or friday 10th ... apart from myself, it seems the folks who would be able to make at least one of these days are:
nick, karlita, paola, kai, karen, rain, lauren and christopher
what i suggest is that we each write in with our availability and preference (if any) for either day and see what the general drift is ... also perhaps we could add whether we have a stronger or simply a slight preference for one or other day ...
for myself: either evening works for me and i find myself torn between the two days ... on the one hand i would really love to see lauren, who can only do thursday is coming from furthest away and has less opportunity to visit portland than the rest of us ... and on the other hand it seems like both rain (and i think) christopher, would be able to make it on the friday but not the thursday ... so i'm equally open to either day ...
also, if no clear consensus emerges can anyone think of a 'nonlinear' intuitive way of consulting the dao that they would like to share?

I'm available either night. I would tend to favor Thursday if that's the only night Lauren can come, especially since Christopher told me he's not available after 5pm on Friday anyway and since he & Rain could *potentially* manage to join us on Thursday after all. Just my two cents.

Perhaps we could also get together with Portland locals more informally during the intensive, which would allow Amy to join in--not to mention also some folks who might not be able to say hi on Skype during the first opportunity? We could give Skype via smartphone a try from anywhere, and many of us will have our devices handy anyway. But that's a chat for another time, perhaps.

So, I'm thinking Thursday's reunion may be best at another location with Nick's wish for music and dance (and I concur!). Kiva will be downstairs and she needs to be asleep by 9pm for school the next day, so we wouldn't be able to rock out much past 9. With that in mind, shall we gather at Nick's or at your place Alex? If we are good being quieter past 9, we can def meet at my place (we could sing softly, and dance with our tippy toes)? What do you think??? I checked with Dennis and the other housemates and we're open to having a get-together on Thursday night. The only catch there is that two other PWI folks are already in the house, so we'd probably open it up to other PWI students and grads in the area... especially MAPW students who will be in town for the residency that starts May 11.

It's a great place for a potluck, huge porch, nice garden area, we can broadcast on Skype to those around the world... and, of course, loud music! (Also, fireplace if it gets cooler at night.)

After writing that last message, I thought I should represent the part of myself that feels nervous about hosting right now -- while still struggling to get settled in Portland (mostly work-related), and preparing for more intensive process work training starting this weekend.

I'm still open to having it at this house. I just wanted to at least speak this voice out loud. Maybe what I mean is I don't know how much I can offer in terms of planning or running things. But the space is available.

I was nervous at the suggestion of having a bigger party or even with just people not from the intensive around. It seemed like more than i wanted to deal with; i actually considered whether i'd still go or whether i'd have an easy way to leave.

I decided to lighten up, and somehow that just worked, but i am glad you mentioned this. I don't think anything about it has to be a big deal because people will just be happy to gather, but let us know if there's anything we can do to make it easier on the hosts. Thanks for making yourself available in spite of the pressure, Nick.

But, depending on the flow, we could also think of having a more spontaneous gathering during the residency as well and open it up to our cohort too ... just a thought ... another thing is that if we are going to have a specifically Intensive reunion it might be a bit odd to have a process work gathering during the residency and not invite the cohort ...

Well, those are simply my current thoughts ... I'm really open to what anyone has to suggest and hopefully a natural drift will emerge ...and of course it will be great if those who can't make it in person can Skype in too!

with the MAPW residency coming up, it would be most ideal for me to do it during that time. �it doesn't sound like it would work for lauren though. �my vote would be for friday 5/17 after Arny's class.
