if you have a child that is playing u5-u8 in
scysl, we are offering free training on fridays from 5-6:30pm at curtis field
for players who think that they will want to play competitive soccer when they
are u9 (or u8 spring). this training will be provided by coaches who coach
competitive teams in santa clara sporting as well as other clubs. this
training will be more intensive and instructive than a normal recreational
training. the players will be expected to pay attention and concentrate on
soccer. in these practices, they will be competing against other top
players in practice, so they will improve their skills by being defended by
other top players. this will improve both players and invite friendly
competition among those at the session.
i have heard from a
number of parents whose kids aren't playing soccer anymore that the reason they
stopped playing was that they would enter the game and score a few goals, then
the coach would hold them back and tell them they couldn't score anymore.
they got bored with the game because they were so much better than their
competition. this is exactly why thee players need to be challenged by
other top players. i have also heard from parents whose santa clara
children are playing competitive soccer in other leagues that they didn't know
that we had competitive teams in santa clara, so they went elsewhere.
if
you aren't sure if you want your child to play competitive soccer in the future,
this is a great way to get a free look at the coach, at the session, at how your
child stacks up, at how your child reacts to this type of competition,
etc. if is is not a good experience for your child, then you don't need to
come back, and you will not have that doubt in your mind wondering if he/she
should play competitive soccer in the future.
here is how the
program director alex saunders describes these sessions - The SCYSL Pre- Comp
Program is designed for players looking for advanced
training and an
opportunity to experience a competitive environment.

structured and dynamic drills that will test a

the ball. They will focus on training the
key skills of dribbling, passing,

opportunity for players looking to get an
experience or prepare to play
on a competitive team next season or the one
after.
