Dear friends (some of whom I have yet to meet),

Sorry about the one email to all of you but you've all helped in some way to bring us till here.

As you know we are organizing a screening of the classic film 'Gandhi' on Sunday, October 06 1:00pm at Cinemark Tinseltown 20. This is being done with SAIVA, as a small fundraiser and awareness campaign about their new initiatives. We needed to sell 102 tickets to cover the cost of the screening (theater rental being very high on a Sunday aft). For those who may want to fwd it, here is the link to the event - http://www.tugg.com/events/5452

Our current status on 'Gandhi' is over 40 tickets still to be sold in the next 4 days, to make the screening happen. If we are not able to meet our target by Sunday noon the screening is cancelled!

We have done extensive outreach along with your help but are still short of our target. So we approached grocery stores/restaurants to donate 50 to 100 dollars and get tickets for the show (to give away to employees/customers) and we would acknowledge them as our sponsors who made the screening possible. We are currently also offering a $5 gift card from Nanfull to everyone who buys tickets & lets us know by email. We have only got a commitment of $50 from Apna Bazaar and we have bought tickets for them, but from no one else.

So having approached all possible groups, I am writing to you to see if there is any additional suggestion from any of you...My email to Shubhada (Saiva) below will tell you the ground already covered.

Again I apologize for an email going out to all of you but it seemed the best thing to do since we don't have much time. Please feel free to add anyone to this mix who might be able to help.
And thank you so much for all the help along the way!
I have just set up a small company promoting Independent Films from India in the US, and my partner & I are really overwhelmed with all the support we have received from everyone so far.

Still hoping to make the dream of watching 'Gandhi' in a theater come true!

Best,
Alka

Subject: UPDATE Gandhi Film

HI Shubhada,

So here we are
68 tickets to be sold in 10 days.
we need almost 7tickets/day to reach the goal.

we have posted on various sites/facebook groups - from film groups to cultural groups to UT groups to Indian community groups/ neighborhood groups.... - I am sure we have reached atleast 5000 people
Chinmaya mission included it in their newsletter two weeks in succession & we even spoke to everyone there about the film, event our partners & the need to buy tickets asap to make the event possible - 300 people
Net IP said they have included it in their newsletter & their reach is 1000 people

we have written to various schools, I have no way of knowing how many have shared it with their parents/teachers etc

we have left a few flyers at Indian restaurants and put some up at Indian grocery stores.
we have attended meet ups where we have spoken about the film & even given away 2 free tickets (which we will buy) to generate more interest & buzz around the film.
we are also giving away 3 free tickets to the winners in each of the three categories of the Be the Change creative writing contest.

our final effort is to approach Indian restaurants & grocery stores to donate 50 dollars towards tickets for the film. We will buy 5 tickets & give it back to them to have lucky draws / give them to preferred customers  etc. But announce at the screening the names of the businesses that helped make the event possible. This starts today and hopefully by the weekend we are able to gauge our success in this field.

this weekend there are various events around town that I am attending with flyers & a laptop to encourage people to buy tickets.
the next weekend is the deadline at noon on Sunday.

any way we could interest/involve the seniors who are part of the SAIVA community to come for the screening? Were you able to send out the newsletter to their kids to bring them to this film and perhaps bring their older children too...

Of course we'll keep working but we need some serious boost here, a shot in the arm so to say....for some weird reason we really took this on thinking Gandhi would be so easy to promote, but a great lesson learned here!!! It is anything but easy but hopefully we can still make it happen.

Thanks Subhada and look forward to hearing back from you.
Best,
Alka
