Just wanted to send out a quick reminder about the fundraiser I'm holding this Friday in Toronto to help reach my Cuso fund raising goal.
Friday February 8th at 7:30 (until 10 or 11pm).
A few amazing artists have also generously offered their time and talents to support the cause!
will both be performing short sets, there may be a comedian that graces us with some laughter (hopefully!) and I will also be reading some of the poetry I have written over the past year.
Please come and
support Cuso and the wonderful artists that will be performing!! It will be a wonderfully creative, fun and
informative night with a side of fund-raising for Cuso International!
Admission to the show is pay what you can. We're requesting between $10-20 (if you can!) and it will include a bound book of original
poetry and short stories. For those of you on Facebook, check out
If you can't make it or don't live in Toronto but would still like to donate you can do so on my fund raising page at:

lin...@beejapan.orgHello Again!
Is it just me, or has 2013 started out to be pretty crazy?
I'm not sure that I believe in that whole Mayan calendar thing, but it seems to me that ever since December 21st (well, to be honest, it started long before that), things have just been falling mysteriously into place.
For example: Before I had left Ottawa after the Otesha ride had finished, I was contacted by Cuso International (much earlier than I expected to hear from them) for an assessment. Fortunately, I was still in Ottawa or else I would have had to come all the way back.
Then when I was accepted to proceed with Cuso, I was being considered for a placement in Ghana. I was waiting to hear back about their decision when I went to Nigeria in December. Waiting and waiting and waiting. Xmas passed, New Year's passed, still no word. Finally it was time for me to leave Nigeria. I had originally booked the flight back to Canada so that I would be able to make it in time for the Volunteer training in Ottawa, but now I didn't know if I was going to Ghana or not! I still hadn't heard anything. Ogadinma and I were sad because it was becoming less and less clear when we would see each other again.
I turned on my computer and checked my email 15 minutes before heading to the airport and an email from Cuso was there! They still hadn't heard from the Ghana partner but had put my name forward for a placement in Abuja, Nigeria and I had already been accepted by the partner organization. If I wanted the position it was mine.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I called my volunteer coordinator from the airport in Lagos (amid confusion at the check-in counter and visa issues) to confirm my acceptance and how I should proceed with getting to Ottawa in two days.
And now here I am, back in Niagara preparing for my trip (going to get another rabies vaccination in a few minutes!!!). I will be leaving (if the visa can be processed in time) on February 15th for Abuja. My position there will be for one year and involves training and working with National Volunteers to strengthen social institutions in Nigeria, particularly the education sector.
I'm also trying to fund raise $2000 to help support Cuso International in continuing to send volunteers on placements like the one I will start this February. I have been impressed by the dedication and integrity of the placements and work Cuso International does and look forward to learning a lot more about Nigeria (and spending more time with Ogadinma :) ) during my placement.
If you would like to help me out with my fund raising goal AND live in
Toronto, I'm holding an event on February 8th!!!! Please come and
support Cuso and also my poetry! I will be performing poetry and
collaborating with friends to give you a wonderfully creative, fun and
informative night while fund-raising for Cuso International!
Admission to the show is $15 and will include a bound book of original
poetry and short stories. For those of you on Facebook, check out
the link!
It will take place on February 8th at the
Gerrard Art Space.

I will be pretty insanely busy before heading off to Nigeria but will try to keep in touch while I am away through occasional updates and as always, on
my blog :) If there's anything in particular you want to know or have questions about, let me know! That could be a great writing opportunity :) Thank you so much for your ongoing support and friendship!
And I hope to see you on February 8th!!
Love,
Lindsey Tulloch
