Egypt’s Premier Vows Not to Yield in Prosecuting 19 Americans
February 8, 2012

The Egyptian government is prosecuting 19 Americans on criminal
charges for allegedly tainting the Egyptian political process.
Nonprofit organizations have been set up in Egypt and their government
perceives them as manipulating their political process. The Obama
administration is warning them against taking such drastic measures,
but they plan on going through with the trials anyways. Obama said
that the US might stop giving Egypt up to $1.55 billion in annual aid.
I believe that their government is trying to flex their muscles and
show us that we cannot “bully” them. It would be very unfortunate if
these Americans were actually put on trial for setting up their
organizations in Egypt, but they should have been more cautious with
the new government. I don’t think the military government has
completely thought through their decision though. They could loose
$1.55 billion in aid, which could be disastrous with their economy
already struggling.

Radical U.S. Muslims Little Threat, Study Says
By Scott Shane
2/8

This article really interested because it opened my eyes a ton to how
morphed many Americans and other western countries views can be
towards Muslims living in America. Studies show, that the numbers have
increasingly dropped over the past few years of the amount of violent
attacks make by radical muslims living in the US. After a sudden peak
in 2009, the numbers have dropped which should help everyone to
realize how much things really can change over the course of just a
few years. Although many Americans are frightened of terrorists mainly
since 9/11, this article shed light on how twisted some of our points
on view can be and I thought it was also interesting to see the huge
number decrease over the past few years, which seems like a very good
sign.

Activists Report Death of Second Protester in Saudi Arabia
By J. DAVID GOODMAN

Contrary from what the Saudi Embassy told up about how the people are
happy with the standards in Saudi, there is a protest going on about
discrimination. During one of the demonstrations a second protester
was killed. I find it funny how at the embassy the gov't was just
trying to say that the people weren't ready for change and thats why
nothing has been changed, but I really think that they are ready for a
little change at a time. The gov't keeps trying to cover it up by
saying that it was an "illegal gathering", but I think the ones who
aren't ready for change is the gov't. The problem is, is that the more
the gov't restricts the people of Saudi, the more "antsy" they are
going to get and pretty soon I think there is going to be an
uprising.
