Opportunity for 3rd and 4th year students of Computer Science and Electrical departments.

Hello everyone,

Hope everybody is having a great summer and not troubled too much by the heat!

Let me introduce myself,  our venture Sportswave and rest of our management team first. This email might be a tad bit long, but I promise to make it interesting and worth your time :)

I graduated from IIT M in 2007, worked with Schlumberger for four years, and now in the midst of my MBA at MIT Sloan. Two of the co-founders at Sportswave; Nikhil Jha and Nikhil Rai are IIT B alumni, Class of 2007.

Our venture is backed by angel investment from a leading Delhi based industrialist. If that sounds boring, here is something that might interest you: our 28-year old angel investor throws some of the meanest parties I have attended, and invariably has passes for every major sporting event in Delhi! Just a few perks of working with us, not to mention a daily routine where playing sports is almost a part of the job :)

Ok enough bragging! Let me give you the low-down on Sportswave and then tell you what we expect from our intern and how you can apply.

What is Sportswave?

Sportswave (www.thesportswave.in migrating to www.sportswave.co.in), is a sports venture targeting young working professionals to take up recreational sports.
We tie up with schools and colleges to use their sports infrastructure after class hours and on weekends to conduct one-off matches/leagues for our clients who are mostly individuals in the age group of 25-34. We also serve corporates by organizing team days, intra- corporate tournaments and inter-corporate tournaments for cricket and football. We have facilities for tennis, basketball, volleyball and looking to add more games/sports to our portfolio.

Here is a pictorial description of our concept.  http://www.community.thesportswave.co.in/archives/861

We currently operate two centers in Gurgaon and looking to expand aggressively to Delhi and other metros before the end of year.

What are we looking for?

In case you have already done an intern, ours will be nothing like it. It will be more like the Facebook one from The Social Network (minus the big house with a pool in California) :)

As you would have noticed, our website is not the best part of our company (hence check us on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/thesportswave/photos) . That's partly because we are in the middle of a transition to a new website, and partly because none of the founders are experts in coding, website creation or maintenance. We did not have the bandwidth to hire people dedicated to our website when we started two years back. We have now bought a new domain (www.sportswave.co.in) and hired a developer to code a brand new website with ruby on rails to incorporate many more features e.g. player profile (like cricinfo), e-commerce gateway. We also have ideas for exciting new products through our website, which we want developed quickly.

We are looking for an intern for website maintenance, troubleshooting, new product development with roughly the following skills:
- knowledge of standard programming languages- Java, C, C++
- web platform; PHP, working knowledge of ruby on rails
- UI/UX design
- SaaS development and deployment

But more than anything, we are looking for someone who is dependable and as crazy about sports. We want to get started as soon as possible. If we like you, we would give you an option to be on board with us through the semester and beyond.

We will talk about compensation once you are shortlisted. Don't worry we are all on campus once and fully understand your needs.

How do you apply?

Send an email with your resume to ad...@thesportswave.co.in. In the email, you can talk a bit about why you are interested and how you would be a great addition to our small team. Also tell us how are you in a position to dedicate time to this assignment. Lack of commitment will not keep you more than a week with us.

Resume should highlight the skills you have, how you have displayed them, your extra-curriculars, and if you prefer your CGPA. Don't worry about making it pretty. We are more interested in the content.

I am not putting a deadline because we have an immediate need and will recruit on a rolling basis. I encourage you to apply as soon as you can.

All the Best!
We look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers,
Tushar

P.S - We are also looking for a designer for all our promotional and publicity material (posters, banners, other print and online stuff). If you are a rockstar designer or know anyone else on campus who is, get them to mail us.
