IMechE IIT Delhi is Instituting a Team, which will represent IIT Delhi at Students Autonomous Underwater Vehicle organized by National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) which will be held in December 2013, after rigorous evaluation of each team’s entry at several stages. NIOT will support the winning teams with their expertise and sponsor for the International competition being held annually in USA.

The competition is a platform for industries and students to display their skills in underwater robotics. The main focus of this competition is to involve students on the new frontier areas of ocean technology and kindle their innovative thinking in this unexplored area of ocean environment and observation. The competition demands designing and manufacturing of an unmanned autonomous underwater vehicle that performs predefined tasks. It requires complete development of a system by implementing concepts from different streams of engineering namely mechanical, electrical, computer science, aerospace and material sciences.

Students from all departments currently pursuing their second year are invited to form a team of their own. It is mandatory to form an interdisciplinary team as NIOT has mentioned on its website. Each team will be required to submit preliminary design report that will be evaluated by the IMechE evaluation jury before the teams can register at NIOT website because entries are expected to be submitted to NIOT through educational institutions with forwarding letter from Head of Educational Institution (Director or Vice Chancellor or Principal) along with a Lead Faculty (LF) who will coordinate with NIOT. Only one team will be supported by IMechE IIT Delhi based on comprehensive evaluation in the coming months. IMechE IIT Delhi will support the team with sponsorship and technical advice from industry experts and academia alike.
