Green Campus
Initiative during Rendezvous, 2012
Respected Faculty, Staff and Students
A "green" Rendezvous’12: One of the biggest and most sought after annual college fests, Indian Institute of Technology’s (IIT Delhi) Rendezvous 2012, IIT Delhi’s cultural festival to be held from 19th to 22nd October 2012.
Special Attention
A new waste management technique has been proposed and installed during the Rendezvous'12, cultural fest as an initiative by Sustainable IITD & NSS IITD. Sustainable IITD brings together people across the institute with a vision for a more sustainable, self-sufficient and green IIT Delhi campus.
Your whole hearten co-operation and participation in the waste management program will encourage the Environment committee which has worked day and night, to make this whole strategy and operation a success.
- PET bottle collection drive at Rendezvous, 2012.
So, how many of you out there, have picked up that free bottle of coke during rendezvous,Enjoyed the drink and then thrown the bottle away, wherever the wind takes it?
This time, while taking that last sip, slow down...and have another look at that bottle. What you are about to refuse, can it be put to some other use?
- This Rendezvous, take a small step to green up the campus.
- Don’t just throw away your cold-drink bottles. Put them in the special collection boxes placed around the campus.
- We have installed 3 collection boxes, specially designed to throw PET bottles (and tin cans).
These boxes have been placed at the following locations @IIT Delhi:
- Food stalls near library
- Food stalls near SBI bank
- OAT
The PET bottles and tin cans collected will be sent for recycling at the PET Bottle Recycling plant in Gurgaon.
Some things you need to know before taking part in this initiative:
1) What are PET-bottles?
Most plastic bottles (cold-drink and water bottles) are made of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
You can easily identify a PET plastic by their unique code, a resin identification code number "1" inside the universal recycling symbol, Usually located on the bottom of the container.
2) What to keep in mind before disposing your bottles in the special boxes?
> Please put only empty bottles inside the box. The liquid causes obstruction in the recycling process.
> It would be preferred if you can remove the cap and label before disposing it.
3) Where are recycled pet bottles used?
The recycled PET bottles are used to produce plastic fiber which can used to make rugs, fibers stuffed toys, strapping, car parts, garments, etc.
- General Solid Waste management
Ample number of dustbins have been placed at all the required places in institute. It's request to all the people to throw their waste generated during RDV fest entertainment in those specified dustbins for on spot segregation.
*All waste management messages and instructions will be flashed on LCD screens placed all across institute; during comparing of all major RDV'12 events and also with handwritten posts on backside of outdated posters(collected regularly in our poster collection drive) placed all across institute.
We invite you to come and enjoy the fun packed Green Rendezvous'12. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Please note: A bit no longer remains a bit when everyone does their bit.
Go Green!
