Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

Attractions of Day 2 (January 12th, 2013):

This day is celebrated in India as the National Youth Day, and this year marks the 150th birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

1. Tracing the Footsteps of Swami Vivekananda:

Following Swami Vivekananda, focused on building strength and character, V Srinivas worked upon the same idea to develop a successful business model – Illumine, where people improve their soft skills to efficiently use their knowledge base to bring about new innovations in companies. 

Check out his journey from IITB and IIMA alumnus to a successful Entrepreneur 
He leads the team at "Illumine Knowledge Resources", a design lab and consulting firm specializing in “architecting design collectives” in various institutional and community settings. His research focus of the last few years has been the transformation of the modern workplace into an arena for personal and social evolution.

Prof. R. K. Shevgaonkar, Honorable Director, IIT Delhi will grace the occasion with his presence.

Time: 10:00 am- 11:00 am
Venue: Seminar Hall

He is a BTech in Computer Science from IIT-Bombay and MS from University of Washington, Seattle. He worked for 3 years at Amazon.com and then quit his job to come back to India to start the Hyderabad chapter of YFS. He is in the National Team of YFS and primarily focuses on expanding YFS chapters and coordinating among them. He is interested in yoga, reading and watching movies.

5. Folk Dance


An ensemble of various local dance forms is being performed by Tanva Creative Dance Group, Delhi . The event schedule will be as follows:


1. Ganesh Vandana
2. Odissi Dance item (Classical Dance from Orissa).
3. Ghoomar Dance (Folk dance from Rajasthan).
4. Artistic Contemporary dance (Based on Gandhian philosophy of three monkeys).
5. Folk dance of Haryana.
6. Mayurbhanj Chha dance item.
7. Ali More Angana Dance from Album.
8. Dandiya (Folk dance from Gujrat).


6. Movie Screening - "Life is Beautiful"


The movie revolves around the story of a Jewish man captured hearts because of his humor but has to employ the same quality for an entirely different purpose - to protect his son in a Nazi death camp . The movie won Oscars for "Best Actor in a Leading Role", "Best Foreign Language Film" & "Best Music, Original Dramatic Score" .

2. Quiz on Indian Heritage and Culture:
The quiz is designed to test your knowledge in the various facets of the Indian way of life. There will be two stages: a preliminary round followed by the main round. The latter will have multiple rounds including audio-visuals, pic-connect, and infinite bounce.

3. Hud-Dang: Desi Games Competition:
The event will consist of a series of Indian traditional games: Kho-kho, Matki Phod, Sitoliya (Pithoo), Kabaddi etc. The teams will progress to the next round subject to their performance in the previous rounds. So gear up for the challenge and set your energy bars high as it’s going to be something different this time!

4. Social Connect: A talk on Social Entrepreneurship:
How do you help out the society and more importantly, be able to keep money flowing into your own pockets too ?
This is where social entrepreneurship comes into picture . Not only highlighting the current leaps in the same, and how the youth can contribute towards the same, but the event would also be opening the platform for young aspiring entrepreneurs to discuss their ideas with eminent guest speakers . The event will focus on the life experiences of two eminent speakers in the field of Social Entrepreneurship. 
i) Ms. Bhavna Toor: 


Bhavna gracefully straddles the three worlds of social enterprise, investments and glamour.

Bhavna's global upbringing in Bangladesh, Nigeria, Tanzania, the UK and the US spawned in her a deep and lasting interest in international development and poverty alleviation. She has built a strong track record of leading, advising and fundraising for non-profits and social enterprises. A StartingBloc Fellow, Bhavna recently completed her MBA from NYU Stern School of Business focusing on Social Innovation and Impact.

Bhavna has spent close to 8 years on Wall Street working for leading investment firms. Most recently, she was a Vice Present in the Alternatives Investments Group at Lazard, where she was responsible for sales and product development of hedge funds. Her passion for applying her investment skills to the social sector has now led her to India, where she is helping to set up a design-focused social venture capital fund.

Bhavna is a former Miss India New York, actress, model, dancer and TV anchor for the largest south Asian TV network in the US – Namaste America.
