Dear colleague

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is pleased to present Professor Steve Furber, from the University of Manchester in the UK, in the 2010 Pinkerton Lecture. This is an annual lecture on computer engineering which will travel for the first time outside the UK to India. The IET is proud to be joining forces with Infosys Technologies in the delivery of this evening lecture.

Professor Furber is going to take a look at the future of computer engineering and will consider the major challenges facing the microchip industry. His talk will focus on the cost-effectiveness of microchip technology and the need for better understanding of how to build reliable systems on increasingly unreliable technology.

He will explain how biological systems may provide a solution and will share his current research that seeks to understand the architecture of the brain and mind. Could this provide a source of ideas that can be incorporated into future novel computation systems?

Join us on the 26 November at the Infosys campus to find out. To learn more about the lecture and to register, please visit the Pinkerton Lecture website

The Pinkerton Lecture is held in honour and memory of John Pinkerton who developed the world's first computer designed for business applications.

His first system was brought into use in 1951 for the J Lyons catering company. This made a radical improvement to Lyons’ operations and has transformed businesses across the world. This is an annual lecture that has been running since 2000.
