I think many of us will be well aware of Super Flood in Punjab and Khayber Pakhtoonkha( KP)  which is soon going to hit Sindh areas in a couple of days. Poor people of Punjab, KP and Baluchistan are facing flood which is getting too dangerous in many areas with the passage of time. When I was watching figures (on TV) of the quantity of water passing through different barrages, I hit my chest, and indeed it's the point of mourning for us. 70.1 million acres of land in the country was cultivable while only 44.4 million acres of land is being cultivated. A huge of amount of water is wasted every year in the Mon Soon and flood seasons, we are producing power and paying heavy costs for rental power, IPPs and Thermal but not utilizing (or don’t want to) the cheapest source - the water. For production of Power

It's true that India is planning to destroy Pakistan with water terrorism by constructing many hydro-power projects on Pakistani rivers with 7 on River Chenab only. But look at so called Pakistani Politicians. In this critical situation Rasool Bakhsh Palejo has warned again that they won't allow constructing any DAM over Indus River Waters at any place. God knows when these will people get mature; this amount of water would have filled 10 DAMS of the same capacity as that of Kalabagh DAM. Saving the water for irrigation and power production
He along with his followers from all provinces should be thrown into the 1.05 Million Cu-secs of Water.

Sincere and Educated people of the country, including engineers from Sindh and Khayber Pakhtoonkha including Former chairman of WAPDA Shams ul Mulk (belongs to Khyber Pakhtoonkha) favor Kalabagh DAM project. But Politicians from every province, those who are getting paid by India and enemies of Pakistan for opposing construction of Kalabagh DAM and other big reservoirs, don't want and would never want these things to happen.

A brief Summary of Kalabagh DAM (Proposed)

KECTS

Dam Type:

Earth fill

Height:

 260 ft. (above riverbed)

Area at retention level

164 miles2

Catchments Area:

Geology: Beds of clay stone, silt stone and sand stone

110,500 miles2

Gross Storage Capacity:

7.9 MAF

Live Storage Capacity:

6.1 MAF

Dead Storage:

1.8 MAF

Main Spillway Capacity:

1.07 million cusecs

Retention Level:

915 ft amsl (Initially it was 925 ft but cut down due to KP concerns)

Design Flood Discharge:

1.92 million cusecs

Hydropower Generation:

3,600 MW  (almost equal to max. current shortfall)

Maximum Discharge:

1.2 million cusecs (in 1929)

Total Volume of Dam:

34 million yds3

India has so far built 62 dams and hydro-electric units on Pakistani rivers to deprive Pakistan of water and render into a desert. At this stage, some insane people were opposing construction of Kalabagh Dam in Pakistan.

If the Kalabag and Bhasha Dams had been built much of the flooding in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa would have been prevented. The excess water which is flowing into the Arabian Sea could be stored and much of the water going into people’s homes could be routed into canals and directed into other reservoirs that have seen parched land during the summer. The stored Water could have been used later for power generation and cultivation.

We are wasting so much resources yet we complaint that we are short of WATER, short of POWER.
