to $200 Web Tablet
Hello everyone. I started this group based on the TechCrunch website,
but they haven't contacted anyone yet. I don't want to let this
project drop, so I thought I would send a message. I think at very
least we can TRY to create this tablet and maybe be able to get a
discount on components if we can get people involved in mass. Anyway
I've read some posts recommending specifications for this thing, as
they are good to start with for any project. The problem is everyone
is going to want something tailored to himself. I think the best idea
is to not choose rigid hard line specifications. Since this group
will act as a forum for a do-it-yourself tablet, I think that it
should encourage people to make a branch for their own individual
needs. The size of the screen, for example is going to vary from
person to person. The key point here I think (someone can correct
me) is that work and research involved trying to come up with a web
tablet design be shared so people can build off other's work. If
someone wants to change the screen size, use a different wireless
technology, use more memory, or whatever, they can use some base
information from the main forum. If someones wants to try to build
the tablet to their own specifications, ideally they will be able to
start from the base and maybe ask some opinions and technical
questions from the community. Maybe someone else will have the same
needs and the work can be split. My question is, what does everyone
think of this? Does this sound reasonable? If so then the first
place to start is with organization. I, unfortunately tend to stray
from this. I like doing my research and diving in. I mentioned that
I have been working on this project for some time, and when I get a
chance I can start to post my ideas and designs. I can start off by
saying this: I currently have a single touch 19" monitor (wide-
screen) that cost for about $200. I purchased my 2 components off of
Ebay. That included the monitor and resistive touchscreen
controller. The monitor was $100 and the controller was about the
same. The resolution of the controller is pretty poor. It is good
for navigation, but bad for writing/drawing (which I personally
need). If anyone wants further description or links to my auctions in
Ebay, let me know. Otherwise, if you can give me feed back on this
message. I will open up a "Research Links" section, so if you see a
good technology website that might help, post it there there. Please
no spam. I will add some links that I think would be useful. Anyway,
thanks for joining this group.

Game on!

Aaron
